BlackBerry has always had a focus on security, and that’s still the case even as it uses custom Android software.
Today, The Economic Times reports that BlackBerry is considering licensing its custom, secure Android software to other manufacturers. As it stands right now, though, the report isn’t clear on which companies might be interested, so it sounds like this is just in the preliminary stage for now.
If this does happen, we could see other companies launching “BlackBerry Secure” Android software in the future. Samsung might not be a candidate, though, considering they’ve got their own Knox security software in place. It would be interesting to see how BlackBerry could market that and if companies like Google would be interested in putting it on devices like the Pixel lineup.
What do you think of the idea?
