After first introducing Bixby in the first half of 2017, Samsung may be planning a significant update for its assistant in the second half of the year.
Samsung is planning to introduce Bixby 2.0 at its developer conference on October 18, according to the Korea Herald. Bixby 2.0 will include improvements like support for expanded third-party services and products beyond smartphones.
Bixby is facing some stiff competition when it comes to mobile assistants, including the likes of Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant. It’s no surprise that Samsung is working to improve Bixby to help attract users and better compete against other assistants, and support for more third-party services sounds like a good addition. Adding Bixby to some of Samsung’s many non-smartphone products could help to get more consumers to try the assistant, too.
