Superior ‘Hey Google’ command rolling out to phones

When it comes to triggering a virtual assistant, Google’s hotword has to be the worst. Instead of the easy to say “Alexa” or “Hey Siri,” you have to say the awkward phrase of “OK Google.” While not a big deal, it’s not the most pleasant of hotwords.

Google Home¬†introduced the far superior “Hey Google” hotword, but it has been exclusive to the line of Google Home devices so far. Thankfully, Google is finally rolling out the new hotword to smartphones.

Once the feature has rolled out to you, you’ll get a notification to retrain the voice model for the new hotword. If you haven’t gotten the update yet, check Google Play for the Google app update. That might get you the new hotword support.
