Earlier this month, Essential officially started rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo beta. The ability to try out the pre-release software meant downloading and installing the software via sideloading. Now, though, Essential is opening things up and making it easier in general to try Android 8.1 Oreo on your Essential Phone.
With the change, users can download and install the software via over-the-air (OTA) updates. Essential Phone owners just need to go to the Essential developer website and find the over-the-air option that’s near the bottom of the page. Once you click on that, you’ll need to fill out a pretty quick form and provide your device serial number. Once you get through the steps, the new software will be automatically sent over to your Essential Phone.
The sideloading option isn’t going anywhere, if you still prefer that method.
If you have an Essential Phone and have been wanting to try out the Android 8.1 beta, will this be the change that gets you to try it out?
