It’s no secret that Huawei’s devices have often struggled in the hands of YouTuber JerryRigEverything. He does durability tests on popular smartphones, and quite a few devices on his shelf of shame are Huawei devices. They’re generally durable, but the bend test gets them almost every time.
The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is the company’s latest flagship and it looks to have turned a new leaf. It passed the durability test without a single problem, though Zack still doesn’t approve of the lack of headphone jack (neither do we, Zack). The glass and metal stood up to scratches, the camera lenses were protected, and the internal frame remained strong without obviously compromising the water resistant seal.
The device was also torn down and shown to be relatively simple to repair (at least compared to the competition) and nicely built inside. The only issue was lack of pull tabs on the large battery, meaning battery removal was more difficult and risky than it should be.
The Mate 10 pro earned a great score from us in our review and now it’s been proven to be durable. Well, as long as you don’t drop it without a case. Luckily one is included!
