Google posts March 2018 Android security bulletin, factory images, and OTA files


The new month has brought with it new Android security patches.

Google today posted the March 2018 factory images and OTA files for its Pixel and Nexus devices. These will let you intall the latest round of Android security patches if you don’t feel like waiting for Google’s over the air update to hit your device.

Also posted today is the Android Security Bulletin and the Pixel/Nexus Security Bulletin for March, which shed some light on the patches that are included in the March 2018 security update. The 2018-03-01 patch level includes fixes for vulnerabilities in the media framework and system, while the 2018-03-05 patch level includes fixes for the kernel components, Nvidia and Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm closed source components.

Also of note is that Google has included some functional updates for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL in its March 2018 update. Both phones will get improved screen wake performance with fingerprint unlock and improved crash reporting, and the Pixel 2 XL will gain improved audio performance when recording video, too.
