Huawei launches its own Android app store called AppGallery

Android phone manufacturers having their own app stores isn’t exactly rare. Samsung has Galaxy Apps, though it has uses outside of replicating Google Play Store functionality. You can download certain system functionality additions as well as apps for your Gear watches and DeX dock.

Huawei has now jumped into the app store game with AppGallery, which allows users to download apps that also exist on the Play Store. It’s targeted towards Asia and offers very little utility for countries like the US.

Many see such a move as a company trying to lessen its reliance on Google. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen. If you own a Huawei device, you will soon be able to download the app store from Huawei. The upcoming P20 series of phones will launch with AppGallery already installed.
