Essential Phone’s next module adds a 3.5mm headphone jack

The Essential Phone is one of many smartphones on the market that lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, but soon a new accessorry will let Essential Phone owners gain a 3.5 jack.

Essential will launch the Audio Adapter HD this summer. No pricing information is available yet, but we do know that the Audio Adapter HD will be made of machined titanium and will include a high-resolution ESS Sabre DAC with hardware Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) rendering and an audiophile-grade amp.

Also included with the Audio Adapter HD is a 3.5mm headphone jack. That’s exciting for a couple of reasons. First, it lets you use your favorite 3.5mm headphones with the Essential Phone without having to worry about a USB-C adapter. And second, it’ll let you charge your Essential Phone and listen to music simultaneously.

If you’re not aware of MQA, it’s a new way of unpacking songs that gives you a lossless audio experience without using as much data.

To give Essential Phone owners the chance to see what MQA is all about, Tidal is offering a free three-month subscription to Tidal HiFi. Normally priced at $19.99 per month, Tidal HiFi offers streaming of master quality music in additon to the standard music streaming and music video access that comes with a regular Tidal subscription.

Essential is giving new customers a gift, too. The company now includes a free pair of Earphones|HD earbuds with the purchase of an Essential Phone. These earbuds normally cost $99 and include USB Audio Class 2 support and a 9.2mm High Resolution driver.
