Instagram Lite slims down for Android

Saving space on your phone is important because you need as much room as you can get to take photos and videos and download more apps. Saving that space can be tough, as apps can be pretty large, but the Facebook-owned Instagram wants to make things a bit easier for those who don’t mind paring back some of the features to reduce the download size of the app itself.

Instagram Lite is a new standalone app that has a drastically reduced size compared to the standard Instagram app. It measures in at just 537kb, which means you should save quite a bit of space on your phone.

Interestingly enough, Instagram hasn’t actually officially announced Instagram Lite just yet. The social network did confirm to TechCrunch that it has been testing the app in Mexico since last week, saying “We are testing a new version of Instagram for Android that takes up less space on your device, uses less data, and starts faster.”

Instagram Lite users can post photos, edit images with filters, and share ephemeral photos and videos with Stories. Instagram Lite users can watch new Stories from other Instagram contacts as well.

In the future, the app will add support for uploading videos as well as the Direct messaging. Instagram Lite will also be available to more countries in the near future.
