Another year of Amazon Prime at $79Buy Now
$79 available from amazon.com
So presumably you have heard by now that Amazon will be raising the annual cost of a Prime membership from $79 to $99 starting on April 17th. If you are unfamiliar with Amazon Prime you probably wouldn’t be reading this post, but just in case it is the membership that gets you free two-day shipping on most Amazon.com purchases, free streaming of 40,000 movies and TV episodes and if you have a Kindle device you can borrow from a library of 500,000 books. Presumably if you hadn’t heard of Prime you also weren’t a subscriber and if that is the case you can just sign up here anytime before April 17th and you’ll get the $79 rate and you don’t need to worry about the rest of this post. For those that are current subscribers read on.
To be clear I’ve been a Prime member for at least 6 years now and I don’t think the price hike is out of line at all considering the price has gone unchanged for 9 years now and not only have shipping costs risen, but Amazon has added a number of benefits like free streaming video, free books and there may be more free add ons to come. But at the same time I’m not above saving myself $20 so here’s the trick.
If your Prime membership expires after April 17th you would have to renew at the new $99 rate, but at the moment you can still purchase a gift subscription to Prime at the $79 rate. All you need to do is turn off the auto-renew setting on your Prime membership and when you purchase the gift subscription set it to deliver to your own email address on the date that you need to renew your membership.
That’s all there is to it, so get out there and enjoy one last year of Prime at the low low price of $79.Spotted by Sean Riley
