Comment sorting idea for news

Taylor and friends, I’ve been a lurker on Reddit for a long time, and one thing i like is being able to read the ‘most popular’ comments so i can quickly contribute or read what people are saying in the top 10 or so feeds, and move on.

Conversely on Facebook i hated the ‘most popular on top’ option, and instead read my facebook timeline in chronological order.

I like the sidebar on the front page for the highlights of popular topics, could you give us options to sort comments and/or just put the most popular 4-5 comments on top of the feed of any particular story?

We already allow comment sorting and more options are coming soon.

      Well, That’s good, Taylor.

Of all the options on the site, I somehow overlooked the big gray box “Date” and “Rating”. I guess I got too used to reddit automatically doing this for me.

My bad, thanks for the reply Taylor!

I’m not a fan of the rating, mostly because any kind of criticism towards an android device and all of a sudden you get down voted to oblivion, even if it the post makes a valid point.

Meanwhile post like “this device is awesome”, and “apple sucks” get top ranked, forget if it doesn’t add anything of value to the discussion. If it’s pro-android and anti-apple then it must be good.

It’s gotten to cult like level, the almighty android does no wrong.

Truth. Not to mention that if you’re opinionated *ahem*, nearly all your posts will start to get downvoted.

I wouldn’t take it quite that far, and honestly – it is an Android enthusiast site. I’ve seen some well thought out comments that pit iPhone to Android that get many upvotes. I’ve also seen many comments as you state above that get upvoted. It comes with the territory.

Please don’t implement any “most popular” comment sort of thing. I enjoy the chronological order because it allows you to read comments from every angle and not just the fanboy ones voted up by the community.

    • Homncruse

      They’re both present.
