hate the new google currents update;any way to roll back and have the old app

Posted Dec 12, 2012 at 3:28 pm in Threads > Opinions

recently google has been updating all its apps gmail, youtube, currents, google mobile site with a unifying look with a side bar .

the new you tube update was kinda nice ;but this new google currents update is horrible ;its become cumbersome to say the least.

is there to way to go back to a previous version of an app.
root or non root methods if any ??

I’m sure there are .apk’s out there in the world that will let you revert. If you know the version number, you can do a search for “Google Currents x.x.x apk” and you’ll probably find what you’re looking for. XDA is always a good place to start for things like that.

I would have to agree XDA is the best place to look for something like that. I personally never liked currents. I prefer Pulse. Could be worth a look. As it can also use google reader items.

No not by uninstalling and installing an old apk , is there and app for such cases.. Like titanium backup can be used to back up the apps .
Is there an app which just provide kinda restore option

It sounds like you’re asking if you can “un-update” the application. Sad to say an old apk is your best bet.

u can always uninstall updated..!!! At least I can do that in my note2. BTW I love these new updates..!!

I have only just updated, and was kind of excited about a UI “update” to Currents. Now I’m worried! Guess I’ll have to check it out and see what has changed.

I always make sure to read reviews about an update before I download it so that dosent happen

    • sandy105

      That’s a legit advice :-)

Must say I’m on the other side of the fence for this update I’m so glad they rolled out these changes. The new UI is such nicer

When I read this thread yesterday I was worried. After updating when I got home I can say I don’t agree with you. The new UI is slick, easy to navigate, and fits the Android design parameters better than the previous setup. I really like the way Google is working hard to align all of their app designs with their vision for Android.

Yes but previously it was so easy just a stack of icons and straight away jump into which ever news source you want. Note it’s unnecessary swiping and takes more time.
However even I like it now. Saving pages and the cool effect where it greys out the stories you’ve read already

I love the new update. Whats so bad about the sidebar?

    • tanman888

The side bar does work well as the feeds are all categorised now in opposed to have them as pages of icons. I guess it is personal preference.

The only bad thing about the new currents are those irritating double headers on the title pages.

  • kr.ray.kaushik

u can uninstall the uopdates…but personally..I love it..
I switched to flipkart due to previous currents was not up to mark.
But these new updates totally rocked me..!!!
    the WIDGET is soo awesome..!!!

I cant say I’m a huge fan of the update, but I think I’ll play with it a bit before I roll it back. This is certainy one of my favorite apps. The new layout does seem to make alot more sense.

  • kelltrash14

I think it’s an improvement myself, though I still don’t much like the interface. Customizability in how the feeds are presented would be the best way.

u can always search for the older app files just search for all the update versions on google then pick the one u want and do it I had to do it with flash on a older hawaii
