I’m looking for a new Launcher experience. What do you got?

I’ve used Nova ever since back before it was even in the Market and have enjoyed it. However, I’m looking to explore with some new and different options. I’ve done some quick searching and seems like there are quite the number of launchers out there. There are the “Legacy” launchers like ADW, LauncherPro, and Go but there are also the modern ones such as SPB (or is it SBP?), Apex, and Regina (among many MANY others).

So I put this out to you. Throw me your best shots. What Launchers do you love to use and why? I’d like to mix things up a bit…

If your feel geeky and want 200% customisability for free, try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.pierrox.lightning_launcher Lightning launcher, which is extremely small. But it’s not an easy thing to customise it.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tsf.shell is also interesting and customisable, but quite expensive.

TSF looks very similar to SPB, but is also similarly priced. Any idea if there’s some way to test it without buying it? It’s hard to justify over $15 on an app that you have no clue if you’re going to like. And the current “test it for 2 minutes while you can get a refund” situation on the Market is pretty crappy.

I would suggest contacting the developer to see if they have their own refund policy. Especially for complicated applications, many developers have adopted personal refund policies as a matter of integrity and awesome customer service. It’s worth it to ask, the worst they could do is say no.

There is a free version of SPB called Yandex.Shell, but it’s available only for users from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus. Create a new “Russian” account and download it.

BTW, I’m giving Lightning Launcher a shot right now. Never heard of that one. Thanks!! :-D

Depends what your device is, really. I’ve found Go Launcher EX (legacy) to be perfectly fine on my Galaxy Nexus. Their tablet launcher isn’t quite as polished as something like Apex or Nova at the moment.

My device is a Galaxy S III but this question wasn’t JUST for me and my device but was more for helping others explore and experience new Launchers that they simply didn’t know about. :-)

I use Go Launcher HD for my tablet. Sure enough, there are others like Nova and Apex that offer much more versatility, but I’m not looking for all that. Go HD is immediately more useful than the default Android 4.x launcher, especially in that you can swipe down to bring out a task manager and kill apps. It is updated quite frequently little by little, so there’s huge potential here for sure. And yeah, it’s totally free!!

Don’t install Go launcher, they steal a bunch of your personal information. not cool.
For legacy, its hard to beat launcherPro, Jellybean is almost caught up on speed. If you’re looking for ICS-based, and aren’t root-averse, check out Trebuchet. Its built-in launcher from CM9/10 and it feels mostly built-in. I really hate the way that nova and apex have extra pop-ups and overflow buttons everywhere. Trebuchet is a lot more set-and-forget. The only downside is you have to flash a zip in recovery to install it.
