Our Android Wish List

Posted Dec 26, 2012 at 9:58 pm in Threads > Opinions

Back again after breaking the internet with my super crafty punctuation in the title.

I’ll try to make this short.

We love Android… the OS. It’s easy to customize, reliable, functional, easy to use and most importantly… always improving.

So what are your hopes for the OS? If you had an elevator ride with the Google Android Development team, what would you pitch, offer, suggest to improve the OS in an upcoming update?

I’ll go first:

“Hey guys, can I offer a suggestion? I would love to be able to disable or hide the menu buttons. This could add more screen real estate when needed but primarily it would greatly help me when I hand my phone off to my baby for kid-mode. Heck, you could even call it “Kid-Mode” or some such witty’ness. I’m finding that it can be quite easy to tap those on-screen buttons and back out of a game, etc. unintentionally.

You could make the unlock some sequence or enable/disable from lock screen. Having a kid-mode would really help out us parents. Oh, this is my floor. Rock on!”

Ok, let’s hear your suggestions.

I think they should try to get more manufacturers on board with the on screen keys, I think once that happens that they will put more focus on the on screen buttons and how they function in apps, etc like you wanted.

As much as I love how easy they are to use I personally prefer soft keys. Soft keys just take up way too much screen space.

The plus side of on screen keys is if you have a custom rom you can add keys, arrange the layout, and pretty much everything else (even the height of the soft key navbar).

Yeah, if nothing else… we should have some options for on screen buttons. Such as hide/show, etc.

I also like the notion of customizing the on screen nav buttons. Could possibly come in handy.

I’m assuming you mean app manufacturers versus hardware manufacturers. Yes, app developers should really take into account how on screen buttons affect their apps. Google should allow app developers rights to disable/hide or reorient on screen button functions to enhance their apps, instead of dealing with the potential mine-field of accidentally hitting nav buttons.

The ability to create stereoscopic images and the ability to create your own indoor maps using the various on-board sensors.

I also hope that they tweak the photosphere software more so that it makes the pictures better rather than looking like it was pieced together and weird things in the pictures. Plus even more refinements and maybe build on project butter to continue to enhance the smoothness and make android continue to get faster and more lag free.

being able to text android to android for free

That would be nice, I agree. Don’t know how the carriers would feel about that, but hey… I’ll get on that bus. :)

An easy switch between languages in voice recognition. I’m a Finn, so I speak in two tongues.

    • Puzzled by Choice

That’s a good idea. The trigger to switch could an audible preface or a simple slide toggle on screen.

My main bug bear of my nexus 7, is the on screen keys, almost every time I go for the space bar, i hit home. It has cone to the point now that I hardly use it.

Hate the on screen keys. Even when u go to land scape they follow you!

I love Android so much with it’s many options right now. I can’t say but I do wish whatever is making my apps mysteriously disappear would be a great help. I already know about moving from phone to SD card does a whamo I’m gone on them but this was not the case this time. Still watching to see what’s causing it and will go form there. Each OS I learn gives me so much I never use so I guess I can’t beg for more, until I see it. Or hear it suggested.

I would love a Google Cloud facility so that purchases of apps especially would be available on all an owners devices with the facility to accept/deny if not required, for example a game you may to have on a Tablet only, but a picture editing app you would like available on both phone and or tablet.
Automatic picture upload Cloud storage for pictures other than Google+
