RSS Feed summaries

I didn’t get a response on Twitter, so I’ll ask it here: Why the change to shortened, minimalist summaries in the RSS feed? Along with all the other blogs I follow in my “Android” folder, I used to be able to point out the (superior) A&M entries from the others based on appearance alone. Now when I’m quickly browsing through the headliner post titles, the A&M entries get lost in the noise like some other blogs, which is a shame because A&M’s articles are usually considerably better.

See screenshot in case it’s not obvious:

RSS feeds were trimmed because some sites were abusing them. You should still be able to get our full feeds from our daily newsletter or Google Currents. Only a very small percentage of our audience reads the RSS feed, but we would still like to keep them happy. We will let you know when we have a solution.

Oh, so it’s FeedBurner’s doing, not yours? I still use Google Reader (obviously), and prefer to catch up on the activities via desktop, so unfortunately Google Currents isn’t a possibility (unless there’s a desktop- or web-based version I’m not aware of?). And for some reason, I stopped getting the newsletter… I didn’t even realize that until you mentioned it. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to keep a better eye on the RSS feed until something is done.

Thanks for the reply Taylor. You and your team are my preferred Android source, so I’d hate to accidentally skim over your posts simply because they no longer “pop”.

Yeah the feedburner feed is the one that is clipped. We still have a full feed on if you want to use it for now, but it is subject to change.

That’s perfect. I didn’t know there was a native feed. I’ve replaced the feed URL in my Reader folder now and it’s all looking great again. Hopefully you won’t be forced to neuter that one for the same abuse reasons!
