T-Mobile to Offer True Unlimited Data. Really!

T-Mobile has announced yesterday that they will be releasing a data plan with truly unlimited high-speed data on September 5. The unlimited data feature will run $30/mo for classic talk & text customers, and only $20/mo for customers on a value plan. This is a great deal for all T-Mobile contract customers!

Just to throw a simple scenario out there that many of us might fall nicely into, you could sign up for a 5-line Family Value Plan for just $59.98/mo with 1000 shared minutes and unlimited SMS/MMS. Then add $20 to each line that you want to have unlimited data on (presumably all 5) and you would then have your entire family running on unlimited data for only ~$160/mo. Just for clarification, they also have $5 (200MB), $10 (2GB), $25(5GB w/tethering), and $55 (10GB w/tethering) options for less-than-unlimited caps if the unlimited option isn’t right for everybody. And frankly, that 2GB option is right for MANY people.

A couple more scenarios (all value plans):
1 line, unlimited minutes/text/data: $69.99
1 line, 500 mins, unlimited text/data: $59.99
3 lines, 1k mins, unlimited text/data: $99.98

Many people have been looking to change carriers and this new unlimited data announcement makes T-Mobile a company that everybody must really consider seriously. Unfortunately, there are some places where T-mobile reception isn’t the best, so you should really do your homework before making the jump. And one very great way is to consider a month-to-month option where you can test it out in person for a full month with 100 minutes and 5GB data for $30 (plus finding a T-Mobile phone to use for a month).

This is the best news that could come from a carrier. With more data hungry services being created and the data caps being implemented it was just a terrible situation. I’m glad T-Mobile is taking the opposite route and hopefully this does net them subscriber growth.

    Sorry for stealing your post.

I think this will be welcomed news for those who need unlimited data. Most months I find I use around 3GB of T-mobile’s 5GB plan, but I can easily hit my limit if my Netflix usage gets out of hand.
