What was the first Android version you owned and which device?

I was curious when you guys decided to take the jump to owning Android? From the start, iOS was arguably “years” ahead of Android in terms of usability and app availability. So my questions to you:
1) what made you choose Android?
2) which version was that?
3) what device did you own?

To start it off, for me:

    1) Personally, the choice between iOS and Android at the time for me came down to aesthetics. At the time, iOS was much more polished than Android and it had the definite superior app availability. The HTC Nexus One was just jawdroppingly beautiful. Under all the OS differences, it was the phone that got me.

    2) Eclair for a day then Froyo 2.2 OTA

    3) Nexus One <3

    1) It wasn’t Apple and it looked like a good OS that was going places. I was also bored of Windows Phone

    2) Froyo

    3) Galaxy S

    1. I chose Android because at the time Sprint’s smartphone choices were Android, Web OS and Blackberry. The Google name had a lot of goodwill with me so I went with that (dodged a bullet there).
    2. My first device ran 1.6 (Donut, I think?).
    3. CDMA HTC Hero, I still remember marveling at the soft-touch finish, being frustrated with the horrible lag and holding my breath when I tried to root it for the first time.

    1) I wasn’t on AT&T, so the iPhone wasn’t an option…long time T-Mobile customer
    2) my first device ran Android 1.1 but was quickly upgraded to 1.5
    3) G1 baby!! Rooted after about 3 months with CyanogenMod and never looked back

Which ever version the original HTC G1 had. Looking back it was a very bad experience, I’m glad I gave android another shot.

    1) I was choosing between Nokia N900 and Motorola Milestone. I wanted N900, but my gf wanted to go on a vacation. We did so and I had enough money for Motorola. After that, I used it for 2 years.
    2) 2.0 with immidiate upgrade to 2.1. The only thing I dislike about early versions of Android – white statusbar:)
    3) Milestone.

  • breckdroid

HTC Droid Incredible running Android 2.1 then on to 2.2.

I loved that phone. I still have it in case my primary phone bites the dust.

The HTC Magic running Android 1.5 Cupcake.

    1) i’d been a long time iphone owner, but feel that things got especially stale following the iphone 4. i found myself jail breaking my phone to add features i was tired of waiting on apple to add to ios, and i started to find the 3.5″ display cramped as i did more and more with the phone. my wife (girlfriend at the time) and i both switched carriers and i basically cut the choices down to the iphone 4s, the galaxy nexus, and the galaxy s3.

    2) ICS 4.0.4

    3) Samsung Galaxy S3

ADP1 (Android Dev Phone 1) running Android 1.0, bought directly from Google.

The Neuxs 4 is their third attempt at selling phones directly, ADP1, Nexus One, Nexus 4.

… my phone before that was a HTC Jam and that was a Windows touchscreen phone with only a cursor pad beneath the screen. Yes, a touchscreen phone before the iPhone was released.

    1) Under T-mo carrier. I was never a fan of Apple/iOS because it seemed very expensive. I hadnt initialy heard much about Android at the time, besides it being a google phone with touch and physical keyboard which i liked at the time.
    2) I bought the G1 in Nov, 2008. It was running Android 1.5.
Kept that running up to Android 2.1 (thanks Cyanogen-Xda) for 2 1/2 years
    3) Now i have Htc Sensation, running custom rom Android 4.2.2 until i see what Google shows off at I/O 2013. Possibly the X Phone or wait for Nexus 5 in winter;

    1) It wasn’t an apple product. I think that’s enough but if I have to expand it because it offered user friendly experience with latest technology but without the walls put up by apple that tries to tell user what to do rather than giving user the freedom to do what he/she wants.

2)-3) I had the G1. I don’t remember what was the version number for the first release. I got it a few months after the release because I had to wait for my contract to expire.
