We reported earlier tonight that T-Mobile could be sending out the over the air update for Android 1.6 as early as tonight. I seriously doubted the rumor, but it looks like I was proven wrong. Two readers have already confirmed that they received the OTA and one even sent in pictures to prove it.
According to Tmonews, select G1’s will receive the update over the next 24 hours and then it will begin rolling out to myTouch 3G users. We expect the rollout will be staggered so it could still be a few weeks before everyone is officially updated.
If we obtain a link to the official update file, we will post it so that users can perform a manual update instead of having to wait.

Couldn’t they have just flashed it? Why did you say ’select group of g1 owners’ after which mytouch users will get it. Don’t all g1-users get it?
I have a question. MY friend rooted my phone and i have cyanogen on there. Is there a way i can get to a point where i can get that update and go back to using googles version. DOnt get me wrong i love cyanogen. I just like updates
Uhh, if you are using Cyanogen builds you are already way ahead of the curve of official firmware. Getting this firmware will be going a step back.
Hey, if you are using Cyanogenmon 4.1.11.1 (the latest experimental) then you already have everything from this update and more. If you are running CM 4.0.4, however, then you are still technically on android 1.5 w/ a bit of 1.6 but not all of it. I would suggest simply looking around for a place to download 4.1.11.1 somewhere and flashing it
Yes you can get your phone stock again. Its actually pretty simple as long as you follow the directions exactly. Just go to this site. http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/Unroot
Know however that you will be all the way back at RC29 and will have to either wait for a OTA update which could take awhile or update your phone manually.

Just installed it on my G1 Developer phone. It brings you Android Market 2, seems to be a bit faster than 1.5, the Google Chrome Lite browser has improved a lot. These are my first impressions having used it for 20 minutes now.

If i upgrade with my rooted cyanogenmod G1, will i still be able to get the apps saved to my partitioned mini sd? hmmm… i would just have to find some other way to do it huh? or just stick with cyanogen, the android hacker guru. yikes, very indecisive.
I too am torn between upgrading to the official 1.6 or sticking with Cyanogen and upgrading from 4.0.4 to 4.1.11.1…

I hope we get this in Canada on Rogers fairly soon (though I’m not holding my breath, honestly).
I am currently rockin’ my stocks off with RC29, waiting to OTA. I’d be happy with getting up to 1.5 at this point, since the only reason I went back to stock was to do some testing on 1.5. Fun stuff.
I’m running JF 1.5 and i guess i cant get it running this rom.
Not sure what i should do- go back to rc29 and get the OTA update, or will devs put out a rooted version of this update, even with google going full-on lawyer these days?

I’ve been using cyangen mod 4.1.11.1 for a long time now and its eallie fast and I love that u have all kinds of themes for it esp the blur..but keep in mind even tho 4.11.11.1 have 1.6 its not yet full..its still drc63 not full drc83 so a few things are still not working ill wait and see
i just unrooted my phone today will the update install by its self now?
Your just going to have to wait it out till you get a little pop up that says you can download it lol

I woke up this morning to the Donut update.
Sadly, I consistently get Force Closes on Camera/Camcorder and Music.
Same for 3rd party apps Useful Switchers and Toggle Settings.
Any other fresh Donutters having similar issues?
Just got the 1.6 OTA…Topeka, Kansas…Still no 3G, but Donuts for breakfast…YEAH!!!
I unrooted my G1 and went back to 1.5 a few days ago – this morning I woke up to a “Do you want to upgrade to 1.6?” message, and I agreed – the upgrade was flawless, and I’m running 1.6 now!
But does 1.6 have app2sd? That is the one feature cyangen has that I can’t live without. until the official upgrade gets that, It’s just not worth it.

Will Rogers get Donut OTA? And if so, do I need to upgrade software (build 2.16 to 2.17) to get Donut?
