There are several 1 GHz Snapdragon phones that we have heard of (Acer Liquid, Sony Xperia, HTC Dragon) but none of them have been rumored for a United States release until now.
The Unlockr posted some pictures of a mysterious Android phone which they are now claiming is the HTC Passion (aka Dragon, Zoom 2) and they claim it’s headed for Verizon. They even go as far to say the phone could launch in Q4. I would be surprised if this phone ships before Christmas, but I hope I’m wrong.
Highlights of the rumored HTC Passion include:
- HTC Sense UI
- Android 2.0
- 1 GHz Snapdragon platform
- 512 MB ROM / 256 MB RAM
- 4.3″ WVGA 480 x 800 capacitive display
- 5 megapixel camera
- 3.5 mm headphone jack
- FM radio
If these rumors turn out to be true, the Motorola Droid could face some stiff competition this holiday season.

Has my name written all over it. 4.3 inches, OHHH SWEEET!
Are these specs pure speculation? Because no where have I read these specs reported anywhere else? Also looks like the screen might be smaller then the Leo.
damn it damn it. it’s either wait for this or a 9700. anyone with me if they would rather wait for the next gen tegra/snapdragon chipsets to get cause they are 4x faster?
Now I don’t know what to do, 3 awesome phones before the end of the year. I need something with a bigger screen now but with each new phone being announced, the screens and processors keep getting bigger and better. If I knew the specs and price of each it would be easier, better yet get to play with each to help me make up my mind but my patience is wearing thin. Will likely jump on the MOTO or HTC Desire.
No I think the MOTO will be it for now because it will have new 2.0 software and second processor for graphics making it run faster.
Well I have waited 2 years with this old 700P I guess 2 more months won’t hurt. I’m really liking this. Although I would love to jump on the first Android that Verizon offers I also don’t want it to be outdated in 3 months.
I really want a keyboard and I’m not actually that excited by the Snapdragon 1 GHz vs. the proc+GPU in the Droid… But I am really tempted by the larger screen and radio.
Makes me realize that us PIONEERS of Android, those of us who bought the G1 – are getting the shaft.

It sucks that TMO has fallen SO FAR BEHIND in the Android scene.
I like this alot better then Droid. I had chance to try out hero and htc virtual keyboard is really not too bad and viable. Not to mention that Droid design is, imho, terrible(let the flame wars begins
. Though i still don’t know whether i should choose android or go with n900 which looks awesome.
The clincher for me is any phone with fm radio..plus >3.5 inch screen size, snapdragon, etc
its gonna be fun this xmas.
Love the HTC phones. Have the Imagio which I am returning, not because of the phone, but because of the Window OS. It is soooo slow and too many glitches. HTC phones have a good feel in one’s hand, just the right weight.
FM radio, woot!
FM radio.. that’s something you shouldn’t need with always-on internet on your phone.
In theory I’d agree but in practice the FM radio will come in handy in places with poor cell coverage… like inside buildings(read gym). Not to mention… you don’t have to worry about switching between 3G and Edge. And then having to load the app and load the page and then wait for it to buffer, etc.
An FM radio is a very nice addition IMHO.
