Update: This application is available for Android 1.6 and above. (Sorry Sprint, CLIQ, and Eris users)
News of Google Goggles broke over the weekend and the application is now available in the Android Market. The service has been in testing since August and this is the first time the public has had a chance to play with the app. Google Goggles allows users to snap photos with their camera phone and match results based on the object. Download the application and check back later for our full review.
Google Goggles is a visual search app. Instead of using words, take a picture of an object with your camera phone: we attempt to recognize the object, and return relevant search results. Goggles also provides information about businesses near you by displaying their names directly in the camera preview.

YAY !
Really cool app
Thx for the information @androidandme
This app is sick! Tested on logo, landmarks…all worked flawlessly; and I love how the scan line looks…Skynet is truly among us now
I’m obviously highly impatient.
Is the app restricted to US (or 1.6+ right now)?
I have no luck finding google goggles in the market and scanning the QR code results in “no matches”.
I’m in Australia and have an HTC Hero. And no patience
no dice on the eris
Can’t find this on the market on my Sprint Hero. =/
Just updated that this is Android 1.6+
Sprint Hero is still on Android 1.5.
Just started playing with it, so far its working beautifully. Thanks for the heads up Taylor.
Yeah, it’s not on the Cliq Market either. It’s on the mytouch 3g market place. Please do research before posting news about apps being in the market place. Seeing as this app is most likely “NOT” for 1.5 users!
Awesome! Works pretty well on book covers. I’d try it outside but it’s raining pretty bad.
Oh no I brought my moto CLIQ to work I guess I have to wait to get home to use my mytouch
So sad…no 1.5 support………but at least 2.0 or 2.1 is around the corner for Eris!!! Like a fine wine, all awesome things get even better with (a little) time!
Do a Google image search for a swastika.
Then use Google Goggles to analyze that picture.
Check out the results! Whoooaaaaa
I have a rooted g1 running cyans latest 1.6r2 build. I can not find this on the market, has anyone downloaded it?
Running CM4.2.7.1 and it doesn’t show up in the market…..
Works with with my CM 4.2.6
A
Rob, have you been able to find it? I’m running CM 4.2.7.1 on my G1 and was able to find it in the market and download it last night.
ok, so I am also running cm 4.2.7.1 (latest build) @ first it would not appear, I wiped data and davlik and now it works…..its prob from switching between 2.1 hero and cyan….market can get buggy.
Wow Google does it again. What a cool app. Works real good.
That worked. Thanks Brajin
Those carriers and handset makers need to get on the ball and update their devices and stupid custom UIs to Android 1.6 at least. They’re missing out on some awesome apps. There’s got to be some technical reason these apps are on 1.6 and not 1.5.
I didn’t have any trouble getting the app on my rooted G1 with CM 4.2.7.1.
Hi, can anyone take a picture of the flag of nazi germany and tell me if he can identify it? Because it’s weird that he know a huge range of symbols (also political) but not this one.
Maybe because I’m from germany and this symbol is not allowed here?!
Tmobile myTouch does not find it in Android Market, Android v1.5. How do you upgrade the Android OS version ?
I used Cyanagenmod and got updated to v1.6 and installed Google Goggles. Caveat: you will need to backup and restore any local data and apps on your phone.

@steve, hit the menu button and select ’settings’ then scroll all the way to the bottom and choose ‘about phone’ and select ‘check for update’
Thanks, claims phone is up to date, but still v1.5. Drats.
I downloaded Goggles last night and took it for a rocky test spin. I’d been reading in bed by flashlight so not to disturb my hubby (see what a good wife I am?) and took a photo of the book cover by very poor light provided by a flashlight. It still worked, found my book within seconds. Amazing.
