OnStar Mobile bringing unmatched vehicle connectivity to Android

Imagine the ability to completely control and monitor your car from the palm of your hand. Launching in late 2010, the Chevrolet Volt will be the first vehicle to support the new OnStar Mobile. Users will receive unprecedented connectivity with the ability to monitor electric range, MPG, battery level, and charge status.

OnStar Mobile will also allow drivers to control car functions like charging their Volt, unlocking and locking their doors, remotely starting the engine, running diagnostics, and receiving automatic alerts.

For a demo of their Android application, visit OnStarMobileDemo.com from your Android phone. (Warning: the app was designed for the Motorola Droid, so the UI does not fit on phones with smaller sized screens.)

Awesome. If I was in the market for a new car, this alone would make the Volt much more enticing. I’m really not a fan of hybrids, sedans, OR American cars (I drive a Volkswagen Golf TDI–a hatchback) but with the amount of unique and practical technology they’ve packed into this thing, I’d put it near the top of my list.

I just need to, y’know, finish school and get a real job.
