The Motorola Devour is launching next week on Verizon for $149 with 2 year contract. The phone only runs Android 1.6 with Motoblur, but it is the first to feature the 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7627 processor which has a dedicated 200MHz GPU. This means the phone will run games much faster than other new phones like the HTC Legend, Garmin nuvifone A50, and X10 mini which all lack a GPU.
Motorola has uploaded a quick video featuring Rick Osterloh, VP of Android Software & Motoblur servies, that demonstrates some of the new features of the Verizon Devour.
The one thing that caught my eye is the new Moto Phone Portal. It looks similar to their Motorola Media Link, except you can connect your phone to your PC using a WiFi network. This allows the user to browse all the contents of their phone using a desktop browser.
Overall the hardware looks really nice, but I’d still opt for a Motorola Droid if I was a Verizon customer. For $50 more you can get a faster CPU, bigger display, and the newer Android 2.0.1 (soon to be 2.1). If you are going to be locked into a 2-year contract, you might as well get the best phone you can afford.
