Nexus One out of stock for the UK

The sales of the Nexus One have been less than stellar (T-Mobile’s Behold II moved more units), but Google maintains that the first phone offered in their web store is a profitable business.

Vodafone began taking pre-orders for the Nexus One yesterday and now reports are coming in that the device sold out. One of our readers ordered the device after it was announced and received the following email.

“Thank you for placing your order, reference number [redacted]. Unfortunately we have suffered a surprisingly high demand for the Nexus One From Google, which means that it is unexpectedly out of stock. Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. We hope to have further stock available within 7-10 working days and will contact you again once your order has been dispatched.”Vodafone Customer Care

No shortages were reported for the U.S. launch, so this might come as a surprise to some. If we receive any updates on the Nexus One’s availability in the UK, we will update this post later.

When can we get a phone of that caliber for free here in the States? Why are we one of the only countries that has B.S. phone contracts? Would be an interesting article (as if you don’t have enough going on). :)

I think all contracts are b.s.

That is why I went with T-Mobile who offers the no-contract Even More Plus plans.

        Well not every contract :)
In Denmark it is against the law to sign people to a contract lasting longer than 6 months.
The desire goes for about 200 dollars with a 100 dollars a month contract, but after those 6 months you can pick what ever carrier you want to, as they use the same 3g bands aswell, and the carriers have to unlock the phone after 6 months.

Most of the UK is out of stock of the HTC Desire too – the volcano, coupled with huge demand has screwed everything up (I was meant to have mine almost a week ago).

Also, the forum mods are closing off threads discussing it, I’m starting to feel like I’ve made a mistake…

Well with Verizon retracting their N1 stock, there should be some extras for Vodaphone. Unless they are a GSM carrier.

There are no CDMA carriers in Europe AFAIK, only GSM here. This has one major advantage as you can use any phone on any network over here.

You mean, any “unlocked” phone. Same deal here in Australia. We booted out CDMA about 5 years ago. Wonder when will the U.S. catch up. ;-)

I think it kind of makes sense as users across the pond aren’t as dependent on subsidies as we are here.

Lol, and one of the big things going for it was availability in vodaphone stores. Looks like that won’t be the case for a while now.
But seriously, at that price, it’s a no brainer. I hope they keep selling out every time there’s a new shipment.

With the phone not available until the 30th there is a chance that it’s an auto-email saying they have none right now.
Also web stock is different to that in store so worth popping in on Friday if you want one.
