Motorola and Verizon will unveil the “Next generation of Droid” on June 23

With both of their upcoming Droid devices leaking left and right for the last several weeks it was only a matter of time until we finally saw something official from Verizon or Motorola and here it is.

The invite above went out today notifying the press of an event in New York on June 23rd which will hopefully put to rest all rumor and speculation regarding both the Droid X and the Droid 2.

The invite doesn’t offer up any specifics regarding the handsets to be announced, but of note is the presence of Shantanu Narayen, CEO of Adobe, on the speakers list. This gives at the very least a glimmer of hope that Motorola has managed to get Flash 10.1 and thus Android 2.2 on one or both of the new Droids in time for launch.

Here’s hoping this also means the launch date for one or both of these devices is imminent, but we could still be in for a month of impatiently waiting for our shiny new toys even after this announcement.

This is not good timing. it will be overshadowed by the release of the new iPhone the next day.

Haha, you really think VZW cares about that. And who are you to claim bad timing? I think Verizon has done fine over the years without your input on anything they have launched. Freaking iPhone fanboys…get over yourself.

I’m not sure but, when is Samsung’s event? Isn’t it around that time too? Hopefully both new Droids have Flash support/2.2.

Maybe this is vzw’s way of saying what now apple? We are slamming droids left and right in your iPhone faces, keep up. Or just fade off into the shadows we’re not scared. Lol

Ya know I love android but these new phones gotta slow down they’re all the same what’s the point of picking the best its all subjective. Android devices kick I phone but all day but guess what the iPhone will sell out why is that though its inferior its rooted in people’s soul. Android better get hold and stop this fragmentation shit. I for one am not happy that my N1 will get froyo and other phones like incredible, evo,Droid will have to wait. I thought that was funny once but its really the down fall android /google should have two to three solid phones per year pushed to the masses. HTC pushed N1,desire,incredible, evo, slide at blinding speeds how can we possibly expect them to be of quality. HTC should make one good phone all mentioned phones basically the same barring slide. We will never have a top android phone for more than a sunset good job gready bastards

So, will this mean some kind of price reduction or special offer on VZW’s existing Android phones?

i think people have the wrong idea when it comes to the logic of the phones. i think the android based phone market is great. yeah they came out with tons of phones and yeah they are all basically the same. i think its because they want to give us a wide variety of phones. Android is new to the game. i bought the first motorola droid and it does everything that the incredible does and the nexus1 ect….if it doesnt do it stock, u can down load or root the phone to make it the same way of any of the phones. i think they r making so many to suit every user out there. even pushing the speed of the phone. is possible with a couple downloads. i think everyone needs to to really look at there phone and check it out from the inside out. YOUTUBE ur phones guys, find out what people are doing to them to make them better and im sure you will be amazed on what ur phone can do. android is amazing and when they release froyo 2.2.1 we will all be in heaven with phone speeds. iphone will be left in the dust. i was an iphone user. then i got a droid and i have never had a phone longer than 3 months especially a iphone. i have had my droid for nearly 8 months same phone. iphone only has the face time app which android wont let go on for long. soon we will be running that app. thats why droid x is out now to battle iphone 4 and droid 2 there real masterpiece will be the 1 up of the iphone 4. i mean the accelerometer and compass will be in it. everything better pixels display with an even better battery. droid and google are very smart. they know what there doing keep in mind this is a huge race, tactics and low blows are what its about. anyone has any ?s hit me up. i love to talk about it.
