T-Mobile G2 spotted in the wild

It looks like momentum for the upcoming T-Mobile G2 keeps building.  The first two images of the HTC Vision with T-Mobile branding have just surfaced.  This isn’t the first time we have been treated to shots of the Vision, but you’ll probably notice that the hardware looks a lot more like a final product now.

Until we know more, we’re simply going to assume that the T-Mobile G2 will feature the same specs as the HTC Desire Z.  An exact release date for the handset has not yet been pinned down, but rumors are going around which indicate T-Mobile customers and employees may be able to pre-order the G2 on September 9th with a possible launch date slated for September 29th.  If that’s the case, we’re hoping that T-Mobile will do an official unveiling of the G2  with pictures and full specs before the pre-order kicks off in a little over two weeks.

Update: Some clearer photos came through that give us a better look at the device including a view of the keyboards sliding mechanism.

    It’s kinda ugly :\

I had high hopes when I heard G2. Would love to upgrade this G1.

Kind of? It’s ugly as hell and not that amazing of a phone. I’m still holding out hope for the HTC Glacier or I’m getting a Vibrant.

If it had a 4 inch screen or 4.3 on the evo I would get it, I love big screens, its a requirement for me when I buy a smartphone

It’s kind of sexy. I like the fact that it will have 2.2 vanilla.

Not sure where you heard that from. There has been reference to a “Google experience” but that only indicated that it will have Google’s app. If you look at the DROID X, DROID 2, DROID Incredible and a few other phones, they all say “with Google” on the back but do not have a vanilla build of Android installed on them.

I think this phone is ugly I have the vibrant, best phone on the market, and probably will be for the remainder of this year. the only people this will speak to is the ones that want hardware keyboard. But the new swype feature on software keyboards is so good, I highly recommend a vibrant.

OK, there’s some more pictures of the G2 floating around this afternoon: http://www.htcsource.com/2010/08/t-mobile-g2-in-the-wild-round-2/ Anyone catch the hinge mechanism. The screen floats over the keyboard. A bit reminiscent of the G1′s screen.

i was hoping the screen would be evo sized, with a front camera.

I love the look of the phone, but the one thing I’m disappointed with is the lack of a 5th row on the keyboard. My G1 was perfect for me becasue the keyboard offered everythign I needed. I have not upgraded yet since i have not found a keyboard that gives me what the G1′s does.

Will have to wait it out and see how the G2 actualy feels before I place my order.

That’s exactly how I feel. I’ve held onto my old G1 for the same reason. But now the touch panel is starting to go out so it’s time to replace it. Sadly, there is still nothing on the market with as good a keyboard as the G1.

This new slider mechanism looks flimsy as well. I’ve been stoked about this phone but after seeing these screenshots and the potential $500 price tag I’m not sure I want one anymore.

I doubt any of those will make it, but if it doesn’t have stock 2.2, tmobile will make lots of people angry.

What do you guys love about this phone? It looks like an incremental step to the mytouch slide. No number keys, plain screen, plain processor, no front-facing camera, … A decent, middle-of-the-pack handset.

So, what is there to love about it? Why are you guys fawning over it?
