Rumor: Desire HD coming to Verizon as the Incredible HD

Last month in Europe, HTC unveiled their next generation of Android smartphones which included the Desire Z and the Desire HD. We already knew the Desire Z was coming to the Verizon as the Merge, but new information is suggesting the Desire HD will also come stateside as the Incredible HD. Will Verizon finally get their own EVO-ish device? Read on after the jump for the full rumor, the original source, and one insider’s take on it.

The Rumor

Verizon Wireless will launch the Incredible HD on November 23rd, which is their CDMA version of the HTC Desire HD.

The Source

Boy Genius Report: First to leak pictures of device and claim it was headed to Verizon; DroidForums: Forums administrator Miami1683 claims the device will launch November 23rd. He is the same source that correctly predicted the original Incredible launch.

One Android Insider’s take on the rumor

There are so many leaked Verizon roadmaps that it is difficult to keep up with all the new launches, but the latest lineup included four Android phones for the holiday season including the HTC Merge, Droid 2 Global, Droid Pro, and LG enV Pro. As you can see, there is no sequel to the Incredible on any list we have, but that doesn’t rule out a possible launch.

We haven’t heard any new reports that the Desire HD was headed to Verizon since the original post by BGR, which dates back to August. That story proved the phone was at least in testing since we had some clear pictures of it, but Verizon is known to test lots of phones that never see the light of day.

Now the new source, Mr. Miami1683, is claiming he recently held the phone and promised to release new pictures next week. I personally don’t know this guy, but it sounds like he is a Verizon insider or is very good friends with one. He correctly predicted the release of the first Droid Incredible earlier this year, so we have to give him some credit until he is proven wrong.

The rumored specs of the Incredible HD include a 4.3 inch display, 1 GHz Snapdragon (2nd-gen), 768 MB RAM, 8 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, front-facing camera, and our personal favorite – the kickstand. The phone is said to be running Android 2.2 and it would be the first in the U.S. to ship with the new HTC Sense UI that we have seen before.

Verizon already has a pretty crowded holiday lineup, but the HTC Desire HD is one of the most craved phones for the U.S. market. We have yet to see the carrier launch any Android phones with front-facing cameras so that’s a defining feature that will set this phone above the rest.

Overall I think leaked shots of the Incredible HD look gorgeous and we have no reason not to believe the sources that claim the phone is shipping this year. I’m sure it will do quite well on Verizon as a flagship 3G phone, but I think it might be a tough sell to the hardcore crowd that already knows faster phones with dual-core processors and 4G LTE support are coming early next year.

For an overview of what to expect from the Incredible HD, check out the official Desire HD product page on HTC’s site.

I am very concerned that there is no Google logo on this phone. Does that mean it will be Binged?

    • http://Website Gee

There’s has to be some kind of Microsoft/Verizon deal in place. So I’d actually be more surprised if it didn’t have Bing.

Def’ a improvement over the EVO with the exception of no 4G.

It definitely doesn’t rule this phone which improves upon the EVO in almost every way.

        SLCD > EVO’s crap LCD

I got my desire hd yesterday, no Google logo on it so don’t worry about Bing

You do realize that Bing is a Microsoft product?

If i get one of these will it work on Tmobile? I want one of these SO bad, but I have tmo..
This is my dream phone, anyone know if the European version will work here?

      • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

The UK versions should work on T-Mobile US but don’t expect 3G data. If you want this phone SO bad, then check out the myTouch 4G. It’s the same internal hardware, but you will miss out on the larger display and kickstand.

        • http://Website Drew

I’ll also miss out on a phone that looks like it belongs to an adult… I’ll pass on the my touch

  • http://Website CTown

It probably will happen, I mean look what happened to the Desire. In the US it was rebranded as the Nexus One (on contract for T-Mobile but not on AT&T), the Incredible on Verizon , and the Evo on Sprint. Good chance the same will happen for the Desire Z and Desire HD.

im so tired of this bullshit. once again verizon is getting another high end, bad ass android beast. all tmo is getting is low mediocre to mid range phones like the mytouch hd. how is that tmo in the u.k. have the desire hd but tmo in the u.s. dont, that shit doesnt make any sense at all. tmo was the first to embrace android, why arent they getting top shelf phones.

    • http://Website Eric

Why do people complain that the top phone carrier in the US gets the best phones? Its the food chain, its just how it is. Aside from being “4G” the Evo is not the best phone around, its poor performance, framerates and other bugs assure that is not what other Androids should be compared to. The tops IMO would be the Droid Inc & Nexus One… if your looking for straight power it would be the Droid X… This phone looks great, however it doesn’t make sense to invest in it with the new Tegra 2 powerhouses that are just around the corner. Im definantly waiting till that unamed LG comes out, that looks impressive to say the least.

Would you like to stop trolling and give a constructive comment now? You’ve made your point however, people can have varying opinion. I honestly don’t think the Evo stands a chance against the Desire HD. It’s been beat in both hardware and software except for the little 4G at the end of the Evo’s name.

        • http://Website Hans

Do you love repeating yourself? The Evo may be a great phone, but it’s not the absolute best. The battery life isn’t that suck and the GPU sucks. The Droid X/2 get better battery life and the Galaxy S phones eat it alive when it comes to screens and GPU performance. All in all, everyone has their own “best” phone.
