HTC will bring their entry-level Android phone to North America later this year, according to a new press release this morning. This Android 2.1 phone features a 528 MHz processor, 3.2 inch QVGA display, 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, and weighs in at just 4.16 ounces.
No carriers were specifically named, but the press release said “multiple regional North American carriers” which could mean anyone. We might see the Wildfire appear up in Canada or it could come to a regional U.S. carrier like Cellular South.
I’ve played with the Wildfire at a Vodofone store when I was in Berlin and I was pretty impressed with the design, but I think there are better entry-level options available like the LG Optimus (coming soon to Sprint, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular). From my experience with the Motorola Charm, most Android apps do not play well with the QVGA (240 x 320) display.

Update: According to a post on CNET, the HTC Wildefire is now available on Alltel Wireless for $29.99 with a two-year service agreement and mail-in rebate.
