Today Sony announced on the EU PlayStation Blog that an official PlayStation app is coming to Android phones very soon. Unfortunately, this app is not for playing games like the rumored PlayStation Phone, but it will connect to the PlayStation Network and allow you to keep up with your friends, discover new games for your PS3, and read announcements from Sony.
The first version of the app will be available “very soon” in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands. Thankfully the app will run on all devices with Android 1.6 or higher so it should work fine on all those Sony Ericsson X10 phones that are still using an outdated version of Android.
Sony Europe says that the app has not been announced for North America, but we expect that will change soon. They also note that more unannounced features are planned for this app, so be on the lookout for a few surprises. If you want to keep up with any U.S. announcements, head over to The Official PlayStation Blog and monitor it for updates.
In version 1.0 of the PlayStation app you’ll be able to:
- Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
- Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
- Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
- Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.
