HTC Mecha could launch on Verizon as the Droid Thunderbolt

Verizon’s first 4G LTE phone from HTC  has been going by several codenames including Incredible HD and Mecha. When it hits stores early next year the final product name might be Thunderbolt, according to a tip posted by the often-reliable Kellen of Droid Life.

Both of HTC’s Android phones on Verizon (Eris and Incredible) have been marketed under the Droid brand, so we would expect that trend to continue. Droid Thunderbolt is a real mouth full, but the name makes sense given the recent 4G LTE ads from Verizon that show lightning shooting out of people and their devices.

Which name do you prefer? Droid Mecha or Droid Thunderbolt?

Why does Verizon get all the good android phones :’(

    • John Barker

Verizon and T-Mobile. Sprint is seriously lagging in Android. AT&T, they have the iPhone, what else do they care about for the time being?

      • Brendan O’Neil

How can you say Sprint is lagging when they have had both the Evo and Epic 4G in past months alongside the rumors of the upcoming HTC Evo Shift 4g?

        • ayocuz

I gotta agree the evo is still the best android phone out hands down

Why does verizon get all the good android phones? How are the epic or evo not good phones? Also last time I checked the hero was still a good phone and people still love it. Not to mention sprint is getting the htc shift and will be the first to bring 2.2 to the samsung galaxy line. You might want to do a little research on android phones.

    does LTE mean LEET ?

I can’t decide if you’re being facetious or serious.

Mecha definitely. Thunderbolt is just cheesy as hell. Mecha sounds more groundbreaking.

i think thunderbolt fits good because it goes along with the commercial. as it was a thunderbolt (lightning bolt) he threw in the air for the verzon 4g LTE thing.

Can you help me understand something a little bit of topic

Can a certain phone only be sold by one carrier ? Im from denmark and here all the telephone companys they all sell all the same phones

    • ayocuz

      That’s just stupid!

      • http://Website wake up

How is that stupid?? Here in the US we are controlled by carriers. They tell us what phones we can have and when we can upgrade. In other countries you can buy a phone and take it to whatever carrier you want for service. Thats how it SHOULD be. The carriers here in the US make us think we a getting a deal by offering phone subsidies up front but we end up paying more in the long run by getting locked into a contract…

    1. does anyone have a cigar for HTC? the offspring of the Evo and G2 is so cute.

    2. “thunderbolt sounds cheesy like the Jackie Chan movie was…..

    3. Droid Mecha fits with the droid name because Mecha means i human controlled robot which fits with Android too

    • ViktorPrime

ok i need to not be so quick with the submit button i put on i and not and forgot to put a ” after thunderbolt…..

  • AceoStar

It’s Kellex, shame on you. I forgive you.

    • Taylor Wimberly

His real name is Kellen and we have hung out several times, so I just use his real name.

  • Prepaidc

I think that the name “Mecha Droid” just sounds better and probably be marketed under the better people can be. Is my opinion :-)

Are people going to buy it if it’s not a dual core, too? I mean the Tegra 2 phone from Motorola is just around the corner, and that will probaly have LTE as well.

It’s really a shame that HTC are limiting themselves to Qualcomm chips so much. They are usually the ones to be “first” in everything but it looks like others will beat them to the “first with a dual core phone” race because their relationship with Qualcomm is so tight, it’s starting to become unhealthy for them.

    • http://Website JJ

You make a good point. But at this point htc is just trying to stay ahead of the game with the amount of phones they release. I’m sure as soon as motorola releases their dual core htc will do the same. Maybe they are seeing how the phone does with the new chip. Right now my evo is more than enough. I couldn’t imagine it with dual core chip. Most people are happy with the 1ghz and thats why htc is not going to spend extra money until they really have to.

This just in…Nobody cares about dual-cores except techsters! You have to put yourself in the shoes of the average consumer. People will buy this for the mere fact it resembles the EVO, point blank period.
