Today Sprint announced their third 4G handset, the HTC EVO Shift, which will go on sale January 9th. This new phone retails for $149 with new or upgraded 2-year contract and is available for pre-sale at Best Buy starting today.
The EVO Shift 4G was heavily leaked so there are little surprises with today’s announcement. It is essentially Sprint’s version of the HTC G2 (or Desire Z). The EVO Shift features an 800 MHz Snapdragon CPU, Adreno 205 GPU, 3.6 inch display, 5 megapixel camera with 720p video record, 512 MB RAM, full QWERTY keyboard, and support for Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network.
Dan Hesse, Sprint CEO said, “Sprint will continue to set the bar for feature-rich and customer-friendly 4G devices into 2011. Our proven leadership as a 4G pioneer has allowed our customers to enjoy 4G from Sprint first, and these new products exemplify Sprint’s commitment to put industry-leading performance and capabilities in thehands of our customers.”
We should get some hands on time with the device later tomorrow, but check out Wirefly’s unboxing for an idea of what to expect.
If you are a Sprint customer, this might be your only new phone for CES. We could get a surprise announcement from LG or Motorola, but it sounds like Sprint will wait till CTIA in March to unveil their next big high-end smartphone.
