AT&T announces the thinnest Android device, the Samsung Infuse 4G

Today AT&T announced the Samsung Infuse 4G, the thinnest Android device with one of the largest screens. The Infuse 4G features similar specs as the Galaxy S, but it sports a 4.5 inch display and a 1.2 GHz Hummingbird processor.

Full specs are forthcoming, but we learned the Infuse 4G measures just 9 mm thin, has dual-cameras (8 MP back, 1.2 MP front), and support for AT&T’s HPSA+ network.

Look for the Infuse 4G to hit AT&T stores by Q2 2011.

We are headed to Samsung’s CES event later today, so check back for a hands-on report.

From AT&T: The Samsung Infuse 4G will be the thinnest Android device and feature the largest screen — at 4.5 inches — in AT&T’s smartphone lineup.  The device delivers a brilliant display using Samsung’s next-generation Super AMOLEDâ„¢ Plus technology which features 50% more sub-pixels for better contrast and outdoor readability. The Infuse will be powered by a 1.2 GHz application processor and run the Android 2.2 platform. This device is slated for launch in the second quarter of 2011, only for AT&T customers.

You’re gonna be waiting a LONG time buddy. If Google doesn’t announce a phone then don’t expect any “superphones” from T-Mobile. Not hating on them seeing as I have a G2…

      • http://Website Deon

What are you talking about? T-Mobile always tends to have the best Android phones. They were the first with the G1, then they came out with 2 more rapidly. Google put the N1 w/ T-Mobile right aware. Now T-Mobile has the G2. They also don’t strip down their phones line ATT does. T-Mobile has always been Android friendly and has had a decent lineup. I have a G2. I can’t stand T-Mobile’s network in general, but in terms of their support for Android, they’re doing good. This ATT phone looks interesting, but I’ll imagine ATT will lock it down, change the default search engine to yahoo or bing, not allow 3rd party apps (side-loading) to be installed, remove the free google navigation in favor of their paid for telenav, etc. like they did to their Samsung phone or their backflip. They have a history of royally screwing up their Android phones.

This phone totally doesn’t interest me and I hate both Samsung and AT&T.

I would much rather buy the LG Optimus 2x, which is a dual-core phone, and it’s likely that it’ll launch on T-mobile.

This phone isn’t even dual core and I don’t want a 4.5 inch phone because that means very bad battery life.

A 4 inch dual-core Tegra 2 phone would have much better battery life and much easier to fit in your pocket!!!

Brian you da man, Samsung should stick to screens. Leave making phones to the big boys who understand maturity keeps clients happy by being on time for work. If Samsung worked for me I would fire them.

  • http://Website UniqueNate

i so hope something alike comes to other carriers by them. Samsung may do some weird things that make people upset but they know how to make awesome devices with quality. makes me want it but only thing this thing is really missing is a dual core orion or tegra 2. still a awesome device.

this also makes me think about the rumored revised vibrant that is supposed to come to t-mo. so maybe all carriers are getting a revised galaxy s phone cause this is like a revised captivate. it just has beefed up specs. makes me wonder what the galaxy s2 will be like later down the line. to much at once is making me stoked

Interesting to see themselves calling it their largest smartphone screen. Guess the Streak is officially out of the pack.

    • ravila88x

Yea that’s true. But unless you root your STREAK(like I did) it mostly has a tablet form factor. That’s probably why they don’t refer to it as a phone. But rooted it is AAAMMAAZZING!!

It will be funny if the vibrant plus turns out to be a version of this…..

LOL. You must be joking. The G2 easily trashes the Evo in benchmarks. Look it up yourself. It’s fact and not just opinion like you’re spouting.

      • http://Website jason

Mark what he is insinuating is the same comparison as the G1. It was the originator of its time. Much like the EVO. In fact most of these smartphone coming out are all physically made almost identical to the EVO outside if the Samsung devices because they love Apple.

What is fact is that you will find out that your gingerbread update will take a while because of you CRAPPY NETWORK THAT TMOBILE IS….. LOUSY AS UPDATE COMPANY…. It’s Samsung. ’nuff said. Means that anyone looking to buy this phone should slap themselves in the face now to snap out of it and avoid purchasing it, before you end up slapping yourself in the face anyways for buying it. I have an Epic 4G, and this will be my last Samsung phone ever. People need to stop supporting Samsung to teach them how to respect their customers.

    • http://Website John

I agree Mike. Samsung may have cool phones coming out but once my contract is over I don’t ever plan on getting another Samsung phone. Possibly one of the cool HTC phones. :P

Samsung’s customer satisfaction sucks. They are missing the “S” in the marketing acronym “AIDAS” which stands for “attention, interest, desire, action, and satisfaction.”

      -> Galaxy S Vibrant.

    • http://Website Deon

True. The Galaxy S was the make or break for them, they did good w/ the screen and hardware, but messed up in updates and customer satisfaction. HTC (or Motorola or LG) will walk right over and pummel them in the near future in the smartphone market at least.

Blame the carriers and all the weird networks. Set a common standard and follow it.
In Denmark for example, you can buy nearly all the phones at all the different carriers. And change to a different carrier and keep using your phone. Because they follow the standard. Android 2.2 froyo came out months ago. Samsung is not at fault here people.
