Android Market is now fully accessible from the web

The Honeycomb livestream is still running at the moment, but we thought you would want to hear this right away.

The Android Market, the whole Android Market, is finally available on the web. We are still digging through and will give you a more in depth take on it later, but it features almost everything users have been clamoring for since Android launched including:

  • Search with filters for pricing, popularity and relevance.
  • Purchases made on the web simply pop up a notification on your phone
  • Ability to tweet or share links to your favorite apps

Right now you can view the Market, but so far we haven’t had any luck signing in to actually download anything so again we’ll be following up later with a thorough tour of the new Market.

We know a lot of you have been waiting for this for a long time so take a spin around the Market and let us know what you think.

Yep, same story for all of us. I’m looking into an official answer for the problem, but for now it looks like we are stuck window shopping.

you can’t sign into the new Market yet. It should be working later today

    • http://Website Marc

It is working for me. But I have to say the market does not really impress me all that much. Android Marketplace still significantly lacks the same kind and number of quality apps that iTunes offers. Everything, from the usually low-rez, non-uniform, often cluttered icons; to the low quality graphic style of the apps themselves; to the lack of functional, useful, productive apps; the quality comparison is simply a massacre. The rate at which new, good, useful apps come into the Android Marketplace is a trickle, at best; whereas, there seems to be a never-ending and apparently always replenishing well of discoverable, highly useful, yet still improvable apps in iTunes.

Even this new Marketplace just looks amateurish and like someone made a clear decision to use the site design to spread the little content thin to give an impression of something greater.

I have a droid, and like droid over the iPhone on a higher level, but they really need to get it together. Google is forever chasing Apple’s tail and then coming in short doing so on top of it. Google needs to learn that the leader reaps great rewards along with great risks, but followers eat the scraps! If they are going to follow, they really need to pull better things out of their Google than what they have.

      • http://Website Marc

Another thing! I would bet good money that when Apple rolls out the new iPhone5 and, even more so, the “totally revamped” iTunes; it will be better than Android Marketplace and the phone will be good enough to keep up with the best Android device, but has the magnificance of the iTunes AppStore behind it.

Google, get your shit in gear! Lay down the Cheetos and do some friggin’ work!

  • http://Website Anil

    just wow :)

I can’t access the market via Web. When I’m trying to access with my google account, it only keep saying “Invalid Request” :S

  • http://Website Eric

How they missed the boat on getting sign in’s to work right off the bat is beyond me. As much as I love Google and Android, Apple never would have let that happen. Frustrating.

    • http://Website N1 Owner

Hey – don’t forget it’s a BETA product … like everything else with Google. Has there ever been a single Google product (besides search) that actually worked 100%.

      • http://Website Lucian Armasu

N1 Owner my a$$. You’re a WP7 fan and Android troll. Nice try, though.

    • keridel

i just bumped you up one. you dont deserve a negative for that coment

it is true and we all know it.

    • http://Website UniqueNate

It’s not a fail. Things happen. It’ll be fixed in no time, plus it’s not an issue with everyone. Some people are able to sign in and some aren’t. Me personally, and lucky am able to sign in.

Anyways, GunsBro is a fun game. I first played it on my iPod Touch. I’m very happy to see more games come to Android.

      • http://Website Eric

I call BS on you being able to log in. I have seen ZERO reports of people being able to log in. Screenshots or it didn’t happen.

Things happen. You don’t have a BIG announcement, tell people it’s live and then not let them log in. That’s a complete fail.

  • http://Website Kevin

It is there. It looks ok for an App Market, but not anything special.

Can’t log in though, it gives me an – invalid request – message.

    Still no Paypal though?

    • keridel

i would love to have paypal on the market.

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

Not a peep about PayPal. Just a reference to in app purchasing coming soon.

  • uzunoff

The market is not out yet. The web site is there, but the market is not released yet.

What a bunch of idiots at Google.

      • http://Website Michael in Az

And how much web coding do you do? And how successful are you at it? And in YOUR expert opinion, how could they have ensured this didn’t happen???? You gotta loyya bitching in you and no solutions so stfu!

  • http://Website alex

I saw it live on YouTube and the whole presentation was awesome too bad they didn’t tall about phones and honeycomb, or Google music

    • http://Website Warden Chinbach

I was kind of expecting a little more too, hopefully about Google Music and Honeycomb. At LEAST about the new music app. I noticed they even had a new version of it with gold headphones as an icon and a new UI than what was released on the leaked Honeycomb music app. How are they just going to casually enter that for a few seconds and then leave without even mentioning it???

      • http://Website alex

I wanted to know more about honeycomb for phones, especially the mytouch 4G, and phones that were just released , and others since we haven’t gotten a demonstratiom of HC on phones all we hear is that they are coming

NEWSFLASH: Nexus One owners continue to get f*cked!

An OS where the OS maker can’t even update their own flagship devices in a timely manner … WHAT A JOKE!

    • keridel

what does that have to do with this post?

you will get 2.3 before anyone else after the exclusive period for the nexus s is finished.

      shut up whining

    • http://Website Ballocaust

Dude the N1 Cyanogenmod build is leaps and bounds better than anything Google will give you.

    • http://Website Michael in Az

Hey there bad ass nexus one owner. You ever hear of a little thing called root? That is why you bought a dev phone in the first place right? Oh no you bought it cause it was expensive and you like to floss.

  • keridel

it looks really nice i’m enjoying the layout.

still cant sign in. and probably wont be able today (its 7pm here)

just watched the presentation and was blown away by some of the tech involved. the cnn one grabbed me in terms of what other apps could be capable of.

iplayer would be beautiful in fragments..

    Invalid Reques

  • http://Website Peter

Fairly disappointed after waiting 8 months since the preview at Google IO. Maybe I’m just jaded but I got to wonder what took them 8 months to get from the preview to this. Plus I really hate websites that don’t fill me screen up. Empty space on both sides is such a waste.

The important thing to come out today is that devs can now price apps in multiple currencies. Hopefully that will end all the issues with banks adding massive currency exchange fees (relative to the app cost) and large cc decline rates due to currency issues.

    • keridel

i’m actually a bit worried about this addition.

we all know that currencies exchange rates are ignored by most developers of hardware. i am worried it will be ignored by software devs now too.

for example: Zenonia is $4.99, exchange rate to GBP £3.13

however if the trend that the hardware manafacturers set continues it will be like this:

zenonia $4.99 or £4.99 ($7.50) so we in the uk will end up paying $2.50 for the same app..

      this doesnt seem right

      • http://Website Peter

That could happen but is it really any worse than a 99 cent app with a euro currency exchange fee? At least customers can see the value they will be charged with up front.

  • http://Website Splendor

“Fully accessible”? Really? It’s hard to access when you can’t sign in.

  • http://twitter.com/talktoanil Anil

Filtering is nice, should have a share on facebook button too.

According to @AndroidDev Sign on problem is known and is only affecting some users. One of those users besides me is @GalaxySsupport. They say they are working on it so we will just have to wait.

  • http://Website shaun

Isn’t this new market just app brain?

    • http://Website michael in az

@ shauns comment, why is it getting voted down? it is app brain before google removed that ability from them.

  • rloui003

I’m signed in! I think the problem is being fixed. Just hang on and keep trying.

  • http://Website danielxjay

I was able to sign in. Downloaded an app to test it out and it sent to my device within 5 or so seconds.

    • rloui003

I tried downloading an app but it still hasn’t come to my phone. What phone do you have?

    • rloui003

It also says that the download completed when I check on the browser market

      • http://bandcamp.squidthewhale.com danielxjay

I have the myTouch 4G. It seems to be working rather quickly. That’s odd that it did not work on yours.

        • rloui003

Seconds after I posted it installed on my phone. I have a myTouch 4g too. I guess it just needed time to register but its working flawlessly now. I really wished the music would’ve launched too. What are your initial impressions?

          • http://bandcamp.squidthewhale.com danielxjay

I like it. It seems a little bland, but I’m sure with time there will be an upgraded interface and music will soon be implemented. I also wish there was an uninstall feature.

          • rloui003

It does seem pretty bland. And I was just thinking the same exact thing, an uninstall feature would be pretty sweet. In do time I guess.

    • swhall

Worked for me too. I have two phones and it lists both of them when I go to install an app. The think I don’t like is that it lists an app as “installed” even when only installed on one phone, minor issue.

  • http://Website alex

    I signed on :D

    • http://twitter.com/talktoanil Anil

      working now..gr8888 India

Yea, everybody should be able to sign on now. I couldn’t at first, and now I can.

  • http://twitter.com/talktoanil Anil

You need to keep Auto-Sync ON for NEW android market to work on galaxy S

  • http://Website UniqueNate

Oh, and it’s not a big deal, but I hope they clean up the pictures of some of these apps in the site. Some of the image are blurry, and some have a colored square as a background behind the actual app. Hopefully, soon, they will have a required size and quality rate. It’s still new so, and I love it.

The first one I downloaded went immediately to my phone but when I downloaded 3 in a row it took about 5 minutes to show up and starting downloading. I am using Chrome I have not tried it on IE or Firefox.
