Download Skype with Video for the HTC Thunderbolt

HTC Thunderbolt users, is your lucky day. Following news that you’re getting Gingerbread soon, we now bring you Skype with Video chat. For those not in the know, the Thunderbolt was supposed to launch with Skype with Video, but the app was yanked at the last minute. None of that matters now, Skype with Video is here for all to enjoy — except for everybody else not using a Thunderbolt¬†of course. I’m still not sure why companies like Skype and Qik launch their apps with video-calling support for just a few phones (deals with carriers?). It’s just one of those extremely annoying ‘fragmentation” things we have to deal with Android. At least until Google lays down the law and releases Google Talk with Video for everybody. Meanwhile, we’ll have to make do with Tango.

Wait? Does that link point to an apk we can install on any phone?

I don’t believe so. It’s for Thunderbolt users only.

Did anyone try editing their build.prop to see if it works on other phones?

Yes, and not it doesn’t work. Nor will force feeding via root explorer or ADB commands.

Just got off a 13 minute video call with my brother via this leak. Worked great…I was on WiFi in Colorado, he was on 4G in Los Angeles. (both Thunderbolt users).

You talk to your brother? You have a weird relationship.

Why is this not in the App store???

I find this kind of insecure… Like a one-night-stand without using protection!

It is! But maybe you are referring to the Android Marketplace.

Great then you are in luck! There is a carrier I just got off of 8 months ago that is ready to make that decision for you so you should feel right at home. Its att and they just remove the feature to side load apps right off your expensive phones. Hop on over and pick ya a gimped out android phone. I was sick of it.

Why skype can’t make the app for everyone…

    • http://Website @neidlinger

because they have copyright laws with Verizon.

Its beyond dumb – these types of apps only work if they have critical mass…..an intelligent business model would be to try to put the app on every device they possibly could. How many people have a Thunderbird and then know someone with a thunderbird….. Its amazing that companies could be this stupid.

    this is a leak,
    meaning it’s not official
meaning it’s not the final product
meaning more support might come soon after the final product is released

TB was advertised to be released with Skype–this is probably the initial build of it.
i don’t think Skype is giving the middle finger to anyone without the TB b/c they’re technically not releasing this,

    it.is.a.leak.

stop complaining it’s not out for your phone–YET–

it’s like complaining that a stolen concept car isn’t fully furnished with leather or with adjustable seats for the more portly.

Why is no one aware of Yahoo Messenger video plug-in? Works on my Evo and can video call with other Android, iPhone and PC. Best kept secret out there.
