CyanogenMod 7.1 RC1 available for adventurous testers

Our favorite ROM developers have just released CyanogenMod 7.1, an upgrade to Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. It must be clarified that this is only a Release Candidate (RC), so it’s for testing purposes and will not work perfectly.

This release candidate should be fairly stable for daily use, but always do a backup first in case something goes wrong. You can help out by giving us feedback on the forums and reporting bugs at the issue tracker.CyanogenCyanogenMod

If you want to get in early and test this ROM now, you can download it from their mirror network and install it with Rom Manager.

While this is mostly an upgrade to Andorid 2.3.4, CyanogenMod 7.1 comes with many surprises. Some features included in the Change Log are impressive (i.e. bluetooth mouse support), but that’s not the most exciting part. The best news is that their support has extended to quite a few devices. The list includes “various Samsung devices (Galaxy S, Captivate and Vibrant), the LG Optimus 2X (p990) /T-Mobile G2x (p999), HTC Incredible S (vivo) and Motorola CLIQ/CLIQ XT.”

I am using Nightly builds and have been since CM7 first came out, so i have been on 2.3.4 on my Desire HD for quite some time now. Taking all precautions I would say you get a very stabil ROM for every day use, there isn’t many bugs the every day user will notice tbh.
But as allways, don’t point fingers if anything goes wrong ;) Flash at your own risk, do your homework :)

I have been running the nightlies on my Vibrant since they started coming out 37 builds ago. They have been great too. But trying to backup/flash the latest this morning while at work, I got stuck in a boot loop. Nothing I can’t fix at home but it’s annoying. I always keep my Nexus One in my bag as a spare just in case (sounds weird to me, my N1 as a spare, but I want to keep it in good condition).

CM7 for the Vibrant still isn’t without its issues but thats why it is a RC and not listed as stable. Still has a few calling issues. GPS not 100% up. Battery life hasn’t been a real issue for me. And I wish wifi calling would work again but I understand why it doesn’t.

Jesus, I left out the part where I thank the devs for all their work. I am in no way complaining and appreciate all they do! I would have tossed my Vibrant if it weren’t for CM support being announced a little more than a month or two ago.

  I agree, I’d have done the same with my captivate as well. I’ve been running cm7 since before you could really use rom manager to do it. Some bugs but worth the many updates and features. The only problem I’ve had is having to reinstall gapps after the last couple updates. One thing I’m really happy with is cm7 GPS is a lot better on my captivate. Sad its not the same for you vibrant users.

Flashed CM 7.1 Rc early this morning from Nightly #115

So far its smooth im overclocked at 1.3 GHZ on the Nexus S using Netarchy CFS 1.3.4 for 2.3.4 GB

No random reboots which was prevelant in CM 7.0.3

I think i will stick to the RC for now if i come across any instability i will revert back to Nightly #115

I’ve been running the nightly builds since ~30 and am running RC on my g2x.
Video chat will not work with google talk 1.3.
I haven’t found anyone who said video chat is working on the g2x yet.

Download “Talk 1.3 Installer” in the MArket for FREE

Of course it requires ROOT

First, I’d like to express my thanks to the CM deb’s and all users who contribute useful feedbacks to make CM Nightly better every day. I’m just using CM7 Nightly recently on my LG G2x. I love it. It’s much better than the stock Tom. For every day use, there’s nothing much to complain besides I lost the 4G connection once every 3, 4 days but that can be fixed by running the APNS Backup app, free in app market. The battery runs short just as with the stock rom. Maybe that’s because I customize the background with the Android Live Wallpaper, have used Google Maps and Latitude very often. Overall, it’s worth to try but you have to back up your phone and read the instructions carefully.

I switched to CM7.1 from the stock ROM on my G2x. I think it is fine as far as keeping all the features I use with the exception of one: the camera. The G2x has a fabulous stock camera and unfortunately, the CM camera is the AOSP camera which is pretty bare-bones.

I also get worse battery life, but it’s definitely not bad. [I am one of the few people who lucked out and got an uber-battery with 24hr+ life. Now I'm spoiled.]
