HTC EVO 3D: your questions, our answers

Our HTC EVO 3D first impressions post from yesterday was a quick look at our initial thoughts on the phone.  We know we didn’t answer everyone’s questions, but that’s why the internet gods invented Twitter.  We asked our followers (if you don’t follow us on Twitter, you should) if they had any questions about the HTC EVO 3D. Turns out they did.

Q: Can you take a sample 2D video in a noisy environment?
A:
Yes.  You can record 2D and 3D video in quiet and noisy environments.  But I’m sure you already knew that.  Here’s sample clip 1 and 2.  One thing most people do not know is the HTC EVO 3D can record stereo audio while recording video.

Q: Does it allow for full HDMI mirroring:
A: Yes.  I have not tested it out for myself (since HTC didn’t include the cable with my review unit), but I have stopped a few videos on YouTube that show full HDMI mirroring on the EVO 3D

Q: Is the 3D screen jarring?
A: No. Keep in mind that only the camera, gallery and movie apps have 3D capabilities as of now.  It does take a bit to find the sweet spot, but I’ve watched the entire Green Hornet 3D movie that’s included on the phone without any eye strain.

Q: Is the carousel effect smooth?
A: Yes, HTC Sense 3.0 is very smooth and responsive.

Q: Can you use a WiiMote to play games?
A: I’m not sure.  Other HTC phones have had issues using the WiiMote with their stock HTC Sense ROMs.  I’d imagine the same issue is present on the HTC EVO 3D.

Q: Have you had any issues with the calendar update?
A: No.  I was prompted to download and install the update as soon as the phone was turned on.  I’ve read about issues people are having, but did not experienced any myself.

Q: When will the bootloader on the 3D be unlocked?
A: If I told you I’d have to kill you.  HTC has not released any details as to when the bootloader on the EVO 3D will be unlocked.

Q: How many peanuts can fit on the EVO 3D’s screen without stacking them?
A:
Great question! I’m gonna say 53.  Anyone want give this a try and send us a picture?

Q: Is it cooler than an iPhone?
A:
Most definitely!  The majority of people I work with (at my day job) have iPhones, and they’ve all been drooling over my demo unit for two days now.

Q: Does user created 3D content look good?
A:
Yes, if you know how to properly frame the shot.  The majority of pictures people take will not look good in 3D, but if you look for the right angles you can get some neat shots.

Q: What if you enable a password lock and launch an app directly from the lock screen?
A: The password, pin and pattern unlock screen appear after the HTC lock screen even if you use app shortcuts.

Q: Should I wipe the phone after installing the maintenance updates?
A:  Starting fresh is always a good option, but not necessary.  I have not experienced any issues after installing the maintenance update on the EVO 3D
