Samsung Galaxy S II coming to Verizon in July? (Update)

Update from ComputerWorldThis story originally said that Verizon Wireless expected to make the Galaxy S II smartphone available sometime in July. After the story appeared, the Verizon spokeswoman quoted in the story said she was incorrect and meant that Samsung Galaxy Tab would appear in July. She didn’t comment on whether the carrier is making the smartphone available next month.

Mobile World Congress brought one of the most anticipated devices of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S II. The device’s popularity quickly gained momentum and reached the top of our wish lists, with some of the most groundbreaking specs of this year (at least for now).

This device will be among the best phones in the market, upon its release. Featuring specs like a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, front and rear cameras, a stunning Super AMOLED Plus display, and its amazing design, this device is sure to bring some good competition to other manufacturers. But when is it going to be released in the U.S.?

The Samsung Galaxy S II was first released in South Korea, but before today, we had no idea when it would be reaching the U.S. According to the guys at Droid-Life, a Verizon spokeswoman has stated that they are planning to have the Samsung Galaxy S II for sale by July (no specific date given), which is actually sooner than expected.

Though we wish we could have more details about the release date (and whether it will have 4G LTE connectivity or not), at least we know that the Samsung Galaxy S II is about to reach the U.S. There is also no word on the Samsung Galaxy S II versions for the other carriers, but we can assume that the competition won’t lag too much. For now, Verizon users can have something to look forward to until next month. Any Verizon users out there getting this?

So far…this is the front runner. I even started to force myself to use the soft keyboard on my OG to prepare for this.

Haha I am doing the exact same thing on my Droid 2. I am tired of there only being one option for a keyboard phone on Verizon. (Droid Pro doesn’t count)

I just wish there were some decent non-4.3 inch phones coming out. I can’t handle a phone that big. Maybe 4 inch at most.

If this baby is 4G LTE then I am all over it. Pleaseeeee be 4G.

If it’s on LTE I am all over it… otherwise I will continue to hold out for Bionic or something similar to the Sensation by HTC on LTE….

If it has LTE, count me in! Been done with my 1 year contract on my DINC for a few months and am chomping at the bit for something that is a worthy upgrade. My next phone will have to have: 4.3″ to 4’5″ screen, dual core, good camera, LTE and an unlocked bootloader.

Shoot i wish i had had a DINC. IM SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ready to switch my 2 year old OG droid. But yeah ive been super excited about this phone. Now if the SGSll and the Bionic come out at the same time it will be a real battle. It also depends if the SGSll is LTE or not. That will be a big descision. But also as long as verizon doesnt switch to tiered data plans before either phone comes out i will pick this one or the bionic. Other wise im renewing my 2 year contract and going to be Grandfathered in to the unlimited data plans hopefullly 4g.

the race is on, this or the bionic. Which will have LTE and actually launch first?

Seems Verizon and Sprint are going to be in the same predicament with the SGS II and Photon/Bionic possibly in the same month.

I assume most US carriers are getting it in July. A week or two ago something leaked about Sprint getting theirs in July as well. I wouldn’t imagine the time frame to far apart across each carrier. This along side my NS4G. & with them giving dev support to XDA smh. Awesome.

I trust phone arena’s un-cited information about as far as I can throw it. Look at how big and bulky both the Thunderbolt and the Charge are. And remember all the delays the experienced? The VZW version will supposedly be the same form factor as the version all the other carriers are getting (at least as indicated by the leaked case information). I will be pleasantly surprised if the Verizon SGS II comes with LTE, but i’m not holding my breath.

Is the processor 1.2 ghz or 1 ghz? I keep seeing different sites posting different specs, and I know there’s a version with an exynos processor and one with tegra 2.

I have had the opportunity to test the Samsung Galaxy S II in the past days and the handset has serious overheating issues even at mild temperatures like we have been experiencing in Barcelona this week. It is my opinion that we will be hearing a lot of complaints about this. The plastic back cover doesn’t help to dissipate the heat that is felt when browsing or gaming. FYI

Whats the damn hold up in this coming to the US? Why in the heck do these top of the line devices get released in the tiny UK first now?

The US cellphone market/system is so EFFed up its not funny. The greedy carriers have ruined it.

      I think the simple answer is… “it’s complicated”. =)

After buying a Samsung Moment, I have learned my lesson about being a Samsung early adopter. Seems every time a Samsung phone gets released, there’s some issue that it takes Sammy and the carrier months to fix… if they ever do.

IMO, Samsung rushes their products to market without properly debugging the hardware and software, leaving users in the lurch. So before I even consider a Galaxy S II, I’m going to wait for the other suckers to buy it at full price, find all its flaws, complain about them. Then I’ll decide if it’s worthwhile.

just read another article stating quarter 3 and there is a good possibility it’s going to Canada first based on the article. The reason the article stated is that Samsung and negotiations between all the cell companies have taken awhile and are not yet completed.
