Gingerbread update for HTC Inspire hits the air

Another helping of Gingerbread is served up over the air starting today, and the lucky handset receiving the update is the HTC Inspire on AT&T.

The Inspire has been out since mid-February of this year, introduced as a relatively high-end device at a low price. For just $99 (or $29 if you went to The Shack), you got a 4.3-inch SLCD display, 4GB of storage, 768MB RAM, a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon, Adreno 205 GPU and Android 2.2. While Froyo wasn’t quite as appetizing as it used to be at that point, the update to Gingerbread now makes the HTC Inspire an awesome device for someone not looking to spend much on a phone.

Along with the usual perks associated with the update to Gingerbread, the Inspire will receive:

  • Updated Application Tray features
  • Updated FriendStream features
  • Added Quick Settings in the Notifications window
  • Improved Power Management function
  • Improved media experience
  • Various minor bug fixes

If you haven’t seen the update hit your handset yet and the ol’ “Home>Menu>Settings>AT&T Software Update>HTC Wi-Fi software update>Check now” trick isn’t doing it for you, then head on over to the HTC Support page for the Inspire and you’ll find all the necessary info on how to apply the update yourself.
