Rumored HTC Runnymede: 4.7-inch display, Beats headphones

The HTC Holiday, HTC Vigor, HTC Kingdom and HTC Ruby are still awaiting their official unveiling, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate on the phones that will come after them. The HTC Runnymede is expected to be available around the holidays and is rumored to feature some pretty interesting specs. It’s expected to run Android 2.3.4 with HTC Sense 3.5.  Rather a dual-core processor like the phones listed above, the HTC Runnymede is said to be powered by a single-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255 processor with 768 MB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The device will measure less than 10mm in thickness and will come bundled with Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

One of the phone’s highlights will be the 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. Video capture on the HTC Runnymede will be limited to 720p, but users will have the ability to capture video at 60fps. If that wasn’t enough, the 8 megapixel camera features a back-lit sensor paired with a 28mm wide-angle lens.

Those specs don’t sound too outrageous, but we’re scratching our heads a little over the display.  According to the report, the HTC Runnymede will sport a massive 4.7-inch (480×800) display.  We’ve known for a while that manufacturers are in a race to the top–all trying to put out a phone with the largest display possible–but we don’t think something that big will look good with a WVGA resolution.  Most other rumored HTC handsets are expected to feature qHD or 720 HD resolutions displays.

While the HTC Runnymede may not be the most powerful handset to hit the market this year, it certainly can’t be considered mid-range.  Would any of you be willing to buy a phone with a WVGA 4.7-inch screen?  The offer certainly sounds appealing, but only if the bundled Beats headphones don’t add anything to the cost.
