Samsung confirms Ice Cream Sandwich event back on for October 19 in Hong Kong

samsung-something-big

The wait is finally over. We think. Samsung Mobile US just sent out word that their media event with Google has been rescheduled to take place on October 19. Unfortunately the event is taking place in Hong Kong, so we are unable to attend on such short notice. But Google still plans to broadcast it live on youtube.com/android. Be sure to tune in next week for the expected unveiling of Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy Nexus.

The wait is over.

If our math is correct, the live stream should take place on the night of Tuesday, October 18. Check your time zone below for the expected broadcast.

  • 7PM PST
  • 8PM MST
  • 9PM CST
  • 10PM EST
Update: It looks like the Ice Cream Sandwich statue just arrived at the Googleplex campus, so this is the real deal.

It’s good to finally get some solid info instead of all this rumour and speculation! Looking forward to both ics and Nexus prime.

    • Its getting out of hand. Enough is enough.

There you got it. Scamsung broke NDA and let it slip through. You cant trust scamsung, you cant trust asians.

Hope this is the actual date, just 5 more days for the wait to be finally over! Can’t wait for ICS!

  • Dragonithe

And 4am here in Holland (GMT+1)…
The new time sucks, but it’s nice to know ICS is coming.

    • David Hewson

      that’s GMT+2

“The wait is finally over. We think.”

As long as they don’t announce that the Nexus will be a timed exclusive on Verizon, at this point, I’ll pretty much be happy with any news.

    • Black Kristos

If that was the case, wouldn’t Verizon be part of the announcement?

      • R.S

        Why would they be?

Is T-Mobile, Sprint, or AT&T part of the annoucement? What about all the other carriers worldwide that the Nexus will be available for? Will they be part of the annoucement?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but…

In the past, when Google annouced the Nexus S and the original Nexus, the carriers were not participants in the annoucement. Why would we expect it to be different this time?

        • MaxSteel

That’s the point. If it’s an exclusive, you can expect the company to be a part of it. They would have paid good money to secure such a deal or they would at least have reps at the announcement.

  • Paul

    What about Universal Time GMT!!!!

    • Black Kristos

Dude, just do the math. It’ll be 3AM GMT. And take a break from those exclamation points for the rest of the day.

      • Panatella

Everybody knows what timezone they’re in, so as international as this site is, its good to announce the GMT and everybody knows what time and where. No need for math.

  • Black Kristos

Let’s hope that by the time I get up on the 19th, the internet will be on fire with good news.

    • 911

It will be on fire like the streets of Athens.

  • Sway_212

I hope Google and Samsung team up to start a new trend where they also release a new tablet along with their flagship Nexus phones. They could call them as the ‘Nexus’ tablets or something.
It makes sense to me cuz they they release a new flagship smartphone at these events…why not release a flagship tablet as well?

  • Jasonhunterx

Can someone hunt down that Eldar Murtazin and tell him how wrong he was?

But I know what he would say because he had only stated:

“Nexus Prime and Android 4.0 are under question. Google removing some features which are subject of patent war. No timeline for this job.”

How so convenience when someone said “no timeline”. It could mean anything! Apparently, Google programmers are working cow and manage to *fix* the patent problems in 1 single week!

    • Republican. That is a fact.

This Murtazin guy is probably an al-quaeda terrorist who wants to spread lies, shock and awe!! He must be muslim i guess.

It would be great if they also release a Nexus tablet. . . first quad-core Tegra 3, though it sounds like that is going to be Asus. . . one can wish.

  • Nathan

Yea! :) we get a date next stop YouTube lol.

  • AC

the Google Plus post seems to have been removed

  • BiGMERF

Can I get a collective “HELL YEA”

Ill be watching like a crackhead waiting for his next fix !

  • Richard Yarrell

Now we will find out exactly how long it will take for the Ice Cream Sandwich update to get out mainstream. My money is on HTC and SPRINT who will have the Evo 3d be the first dualcore device that will recieve ice cream after the new Nexus Prime and current Nexus S4g.. The clock will be ticking after October 19th… I can taste it already..

    • BiGMERF

Whoever gets it first will be followed almost immediately by another. The amount of time should be a lot shorter than it was before. Google promised it will do its part to help make these updates quicker

By By the way the evo 3d may take longer due to it having 3d. I see anupdate being ready faster for a sensation /amaze..

    • Sway_212

The return of good ol’ Richard Yarrell…..let the hate and negative comments begin!

  • kwills88

I woke up today, was about to call t-mobile and order the SGS2, then I got on here and saw this…I can wait a couple more days :)

  • seven2k

    Finally

  • Nate B.

So they postponed it because they forgot the IC statue lol. Jk. I can’t wait. So excites. I’ll be working and get off at 10:30pm. I’ll be all over twitter and watching on my phone as soon as I clock out.

Hong Kong :]… If it sells there, I can get one at the end of the year!!

    ^^ 5 days to go… I remember saying that 7 days ago.

  • felixjai

I’m in Hong Kong and this place is next to where I go to work! I will go only if someone can give me an invite…

  • levelm

Perhaps China will block the announcement since I heard the Dali lama likes ice cream sandwiches and Google.

  • falcon

Stop confusing people, the time should be in Daylight Saving Time!!! Hong Kong is 12 hours ahead of EDT and 13 hours ahead of EST

    7PM PDT
    8PM MDT
    9PM CDT
    10PM EDT

  • kzjle

I’m typing this message from Hong Kong at the moment and I’ll be able to give you guys a live update via 3G and can attend on your behalf :D

  • SherlockHomeboy

Okay so this definitely makes me doubt the Verizon exclusive rumors. Why would Google show off a device exclusively for an American wireless provider in Hong Kong?

  • Greg

A&M: Have you forgotten we’re in DST? I thought you guys were better than that…

I’m looking forward to Android 4.0, for the sole reason being that gaming needs to take a huge step up from what it has been on Android today. I have seen so many tech demo’s and know what Android “could” do if it was pushed a little harder and developers really tried! At the moment there are only a small handful of games that truly push the Android platform. The one I’m looking forward to is Shadowgun. It has not even been released yet for Android. It’s set to be released later this month. It’s by far the best graphics I’ve seen on the Android platform.

So I know what the Android platform can do if people simple pushed the hardware and software. With that said, Android 4.0 will have much better support for games in all areas. I read on the development site that they have been taking into account the number of games being downloaded and it’s simply amazing. I can’t wait to see the next-gen of Android games to come out. :)

  • Apoo

So I guess I’ll be up at 3 am to watch that :)
