Metro PCS takes advantage of acquisition to steal Carly (and customers)?

carly metro

Everyone is worried about the AT&T/T-Mobile merger that could be taking place in the near future. Smaller, affordable companies could see this as a great opportunity to get some costumers looking to keep lower prices, though. Metro PCS is using this possible acquisition as a marketing stunt, but they’re not merely advertising their great plans. They’re using Carly as a character in their commercial. (Not the real one, of course).

This may be nothing but a simple joke, and the odds of Carly (T-Mobile’s Marketing MVP) moving to Metro PCS are definitely very small. While many will find this video funny, a great percentage of our readers are T-Mobile subscribers. You may not appreciate Metro taking advantage of the situation and using one of Magenta’s biggest icons as a tool.

All jokes aside, the day when T-Mobile disappears may be coming soon. Many of you will have to make a decision and choose what carrier will best suit your needs. Metro could possibly be a good affordable option, as could Virgin Mobile or other smaller companies. It would be interesting to know where most of you will be going. Would you guys prefer one of the big guys (Verizon and AT&T)? Would you go for Sprint? Maybe one of these smaller carriers?

Check out the video and let us know what you think! Do you appreciate Metro’s move?

I’m with tmobile. I think i would wait and see rather than make the jump without looking. If the merger goes through AT&T will have a ridiculous amount of pressure and an obscene amount of eyes on them waiting to point the finger and say told ya so. But i would never go to metro piece shit. Never. Their phones suck and me, I’m a features man. If anything I’ll be getting a prime on VZW.

I’m with T-Mobile now. I don’t mind this commercial…It’s kinda funny. For the record…Virgin Mobile has used fake Carly’s in their commercials too. If the merger goes through, I won’t be too happy. And if it gets to be too much to bare, dealing with AT&T, I’ll probably jump ship to Sprint. I had Verizon for about 7 years until I jumped to T-Mobile to get the G1…I don’t plan on going back.

i laughed my ass off when i saw this the other day.. So funny ! they shoud have jumped on her and yelled ORRRRGGGGGGGGGyyyyyyyyyyy

Costumers? I realize it’s about time for Halloween but I don’t see how people wearing costumes or making costumes would be concerned about saving money on their wireless plans more than every other regular customer.

Don’t like Metro PCS smartphone selection, BUT since I am disabled and rely solely upon a fixed income nowadays, along with having a jealous soon-to-be ex-spouse who flatly refuses to be employed b/c I no longer can work, As a result, I was compelled to instead buy one of their entry-level Android phones (Huawei M835) and thus avoid having to sign up for a two-year contract w/ Verizon..ect…

Oh well, beats spending $70.00 a month or more on a pay as you go Tracfone, for example, b/c my wife burned through her pre-paid minutes each month (including adding double for life and free minutes using promo codes) by texting so often at a rate of 1 minute per sent text message and opening up texts from her friends cost 1.5 minutes per received text. It was getting ridiculous and she ignored my pleas to use our desktop computer to send SMS for FREE online using G-mail as we don’t own a laptop, and we can’t afford to buy a used, new, or refurbished one yet.

We can’t afford cable or broadband internet, we only have WiFi b/c my neighbor let me set up and connect my wireless router in his home in exchange for my doing weekly maintenance and keeping his PC up and running, since he doesn’t know very much about Windows or computers or how to do even routine cleanup work on the Win XP Pro OS installed in it.
