Sprint outlines aggressive LTE rollout, to be fully implemented by end of 2013

sprint-store

At their Network Strategy Update event in NYC this morning, Sprint announced (unsurprisingly) that they will be launching a true 4th-generation LTE network over the next few years. Sprint has detailed a fairly aggressive implementation timeline. The nation’s number 3 network will officially turn on their LTE network in limited markets in mid-2012, and will complete a full implementation of nationwide LTE coverage by the end of 2013.

Sprint will accomplish this by building out the LTE network on their 1900 MHz spectrum, which will last them through approximately 2014. Adding the spectrum from a pending deal with LightSquared will take them through 2015, at which point Sprint believes it will need to look for more spectrum.

“What about LTE devices?” you may ask. Though obviously no details were leaked this morning, Sprint did indicate they will be working with Qualcomm and unnamed manufacturers to ensure that there will be a variety of LTE devices available when they flip the switch on their new network. Sprint expects 15 LTE devices (a combination of phones, tablets and mobile hotspots) to be available by the end of 2012.

There you have it, Sprint customers. Your beloved network will soon be a better experience with the next-generation LTE network. Who out there is excited?

This announcement was definitely in the making for over a year now. Still somethings need to be ironed out but they are headed in the correct direction. This pretty much lines up with the planned quadcore evo brand in August 2012. It’s basically all a waiting game right now as to the area’s that will be lighted up first meanwhile deal with what it is today. Definitely the best profolio lineup in the industry and that’s without the Galaxy Nexus.

    • 666

I doubt it’s about any EVO. A WiMax quad core EVO is not much more different than a LTE one for the average Sprint user. What does matter is Sprint dropping $20b on the iPhone and being stuck with a 4G-less iPhone 5 or whatever next year. Doubt that Apple would produce just a couple of WiMax ones for Sprint.

      • Richard Yarrell

A quadcore evo device in 2012 will be an LTE DEVICE on sprint and it will beat anything on Verizon. Especially spec wise and price wise you can rest assure on that it’s already in the works. The EVO BRAND in 2012 will have a 4.7 to 5.0 inch screen, running a 2.0Ghz processor with 1.5gb of ram, 10megipixel camera, Ice Cream Sandwich device. Let’s see some silly device on Verizon top this it will be very doubtful not even the Galaxy Nexus will come close. Open your eyes people because Htc and Samsung are about to blow the doors off of today’s dualcore devices… http://socialbarrel.com/qualcomm-reveals-plans-about-snapdragon-s4-2-5-ghz-chips-for-mobile-devices/20564/Plus here are the specs for the Samsung Galaxy S3 for 2012.. http://global.christianpost.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s3-release-date-specs-leaked-reveals-powerhouse-processor-55987/..Eat your heart out verizon

        • Billeymaes

How are you so sure that the spec you stated is going to be in the evo and Verizon won’t be able to top it? The evo is pretty much dead and there won’t be a third. The sooner you accept it the easier it is.

        • Cree

Your arguments aren’t valid. You are talking about a device that does not exist vs. a device that is about to become released. Of course technology will be improved 2nd-3rd Qtr with the possibility of quad-core devices becoming released, but until then we are stuck with devices we have.

          Cree

          • Chris125

ha you can’t say anything to Yarrell he thinks sprint is god and his evo never leaves his hand. He has no clue what he is talking about and funny maybe this time sprint will actually roll out their network and not stop after like 5 cities with wimax. By that time verizon will already have lte deployed and once again sprint will be in the basement with their service. Come on Yarrell you can have fun with your “quad core Evo” htc is junk compared to moto and samsung. Nice try though=)

        • squiddy20

          1. Could you TRY to write something correctly just once? Yet again, neither of your links work because you’re too stupid to put spaces immediately after the end of the link.
          2. If Sprint’s previous releases are anything to go by, the next Evo will be released sometime in June/July. The new LTE service is said to be switched on “mid-2012″ which just happens to be about June/July time frame as well. Do you really think Sprint would be so stupid as to release a brand new phone before testing their network first?
          3. 1.5 GB of RAM is completely unnecessary, and overkill. I can bet you’re not even using 3/4 of the 1GB of RAM found in your stupid little Evo 3D. You’re just as bad as those idiots who think they need the “latest and greatest” when all they do is surf the web and other non-resource intensive stuff. Same goes for the processor/camera. Utterly stupid.

    • snowbdr89

One thing we all know for sure, dick yarrell is the biggest idiot alive. : )

    • Nate B.

      Whatever makes you happy guy.

    • Charles

I think Sprint is done and gone in two years

    • squiddy20

“This announcement was definitely in the making for over a year now.”
Ummmm…. duh? We’ve known for quite awhile that Wimax was failing and Sprint was scrambling to line something else up. What was your biggest clue Captain Obvious?
“Definitely the best…” Again, that’s an opinion, not a fact. Learn the difference between the two.

    • MaxSteel

There’s a shocker. Dick Yarrell is the first to post. >_>

    • Tico4674

      What’s a profolio?

      • squiddy20

Lol That’s his ridiculous attempt at spelling the word “portfolio”. You’d think if he’s typing this all out on his phone, it would autocorrect to the right word or something…

        • Chris125

You would think that, but that is one feature not included in the god phone he calls the evo 3d lmao.

  • DaveC

It will still be inferior to VZW if it’s at 1900mhz. Verizon’s lower frequency does a better job of penetrating buildings. But hopefully it will be better than the spotty WiMax coverage.

    • Richard Yarrell

Inferior is verizon’s android lineup and useless profolio. It’s pretty sad when you put all your eggs in one google/galaxy nexus basket. The best device on Verizon hasn’t even been launched yet that’s pretty sad for some big time overpriced network..

      • Cree

Personally, VZW has the best network over ATT, TMobile, and Sprint. No dropped calls, LTE was still new when I got the Thunderbolt. Now that LTE has matured Spring and ATT will not be able to catch the pace of where VZW is at now. It will take to the end of 2012, beginning of
2013 to catch up with VZW now.

Again every HTC device is similar to the EVO and EVO3D, such as my Thunderbolt. The OG Droid was among the best selling phone of any Android. Now that we are getting the Prime, Vigor, iPhone, etc…We will have the best phones and the best network. I don’t mind paying an extra $30-$40 per month on my family share plan for better Network and call quality. WiMAX and HSPA are horrible!!! The data speeds are now where near my 15mbps – 20mbps that I get on a daily basis.

        Cree

        • crickerman

Verizon has a good network, no doubt about that.Once AT&T rolls out LTE it will be my preferred network though since LTE is seamless with gsm technologies.

          • guardianali

Only problem being ATT will do what they did with 3g. Put all their eggs in the high density areas of the country to claim “covers over 90%” of americans but actually covers only like 25% of the the actual landmass (look at their 3g coverage maps).

Verizon will eventually make lte like their 3g..cover most americans AND most land mass. So when you travel ur not f’ed.

Also, LTE is NOT seemless with 3g. they use different radios. A phone with gsm 3g cant use the 3g on an lte network. they still need 3g cell towers to make a 3g call or connection.
A dual mode chip that is cdsm/lte will not be any better or worse performance or battery wise then a dual mode chip with gsm/lte.

          • crickerman

By seamless I meant “handoffs” from LTE to HSPA and vice versa. But after further investigation ericsson, motorola, and other companies have been able to make cdma/lte radios that can do the same thing..

ATT has worked very well where I live and I travel overseas a lot. It is nice having every phone I purchase be a “world phone” as well.

          • crickerman

Guardianali, btw it is possible to make a single radio that supports gsm/hspa/LTE that consumes less battery than the dual radios the cdma carriers must use. Take a look http://m.engadget.com/default/comments.do?artUrl=http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/13/atandts-ralph-de-la-vega-lte-phones-to-be-leaner-retain-charge/&category=classic&subCategory=&type=&postPage=3&disqusId=20080964&altPost=

      • squiddy20

You demonstrate your stupidity yet again Dick. DaveC was talking specifically about the two carrier’s wireless networks. And yet here you are talking about “verizon’s android lineup and useless profolio.” In no way, do those subjects have anything in common. Why don’t you try making a real argument about the things being talked about instead of changing the subject to something you THINK you can win? BTW, the word you were looking for was “portfolio”, with a “p”. How does a 50 or so year old child get this far in life without being able to spell a simple word correctly? Even if you sound it out phonetically, there’s definitely a hard “p” in there. Simply amazing.

      • Chris125

liek sprint did with the iphone? Funny that verizon isnt putting their eggs into 1 basket they support multiple platforms because they can. Not to mention sprint’s lte will be like their wimax… unable to get a signal in a building and once again verizon will be better. Just because you are to cheap and poor to be able to afford verizon and a better network go back and hide in your hole you dumbass.

    • http://sean-the-electrofreak.blogspot.com/ Sean the Electrofreak

But lower frequencies also generally carry less bandwidth. As long as they’ve got proper coverage, 1900 Mhz LTE could potentially hold more traffic than Verizon’s 700 Mhz band.

The major roadblock currently is LightSquared’s proximity to the bands used for GPS… it means they’re having to make a lot of deals with the FCC to keep all transmissions at least 26 MHz from the GPS band (which is like half of the frequencies they bought) and ensure that under no circumstances will their LTE interfere with GPS used by military and emergency services.

  • snowbdr89

Another way it will be inferior to big reds is coverage, verizons coverage map will be lte instead of just metro areas or thats what they said.

    • Richard Yarrell

@snowbdr89.. How’s those football field airports doing you JOKE of a verizon fanboy. Oh how’s the Galaxy Nexus doing on Verizon?? Guess you will be waiting a long time for that wish. Meanwhile verizon is still trying to sell those useless underwhelming device LTE or NO LTE your OVERPRICED devices are LAME. It will be until April or May before any of those current devices on big red will ever see some ice cream sandwich. Verizon sucks eggs just like you do

      • snowbdr89

Once sgain dick snot id be way more then happy to compare speeds even from inside my house in the basement!! I will also put my tbolt runnin das bamff against you’re out dated gay ass 3d device running on the now behind everyone else network.. phuckin moron

      • snowbdr89

Well i guess id rather suck eggs instead of suckin cawk like you do.

      • snowbdr89

P.s. dick, id rather be an egg suckee then a cawk sucka like you. : )

      • squiddy20

        1. Verizon’s LTE network is NOT only found in airports. It’s currently found in most major cities and even some smaller ones. In fact, they’ve surpassed Sprint’s Wimax coverage. So, wrong on that point.
        2. If you’ve been keeping up with Android news (which you obviously haven’t or else you wouldn’t have said something this stupid) the “Galaxy Nexus” hasn’t even been officially revealed, let alone released to any carriers. So it can’t be “doing” anything. But one thing is known for certain, it WILL be coming to Verizon first. It’s the only logical choice.
        3. Again with the “overpriced underspeced” crap? If I’ve told you once, I’ve told you dozens of times, FUCK OFF. You don’t own anything pertaining to Verizon. Nothing about Verizon impacts you. It doesn’t matter if they have “overpriced” phones or plans because, guess what? You couldn’t pay for it if you wanted to! Why don’t you stick to Sprint stuff you little retard?
        4. For the past several months, all you’ve said is “go suck eggs”. What’s sad is that someone had to point out to me where that reference came from because it’s so old. Try getting with the times just a little bit. You sound ridiculously stupid with your old ass (and quite boringly repetitive) insults.

  • Matthew H

The main reason Sprint is doing this is because the true Iphone 5 will be LTE, and most likely available in the summer of 2012. If they really did spend $20B on Iphones, there is no way that they can stay in business without having LTE. The reason Iphone 5 is quite likely to have LTE is because Android has done such a good job of pioneering it.
Apple has never been about the latest specs, but rather wrapping up established technologies and making it easy to use for the average consumer. I myself like the latest specs and thus I am an Android fan, but by next year, LTE will be on Verizon (most of the country), ATT (some cities) and now Sprint. That is the perfect combo for Apple to come out with an Iphone 5 with LTE. Since Apple won’t make a WiMax Iphone, Sprint has to upgrade to LTE, end of story.
Granted, there will be plenty of Android LTE phones on Sprint next year too, but that isn’t a bet the farm reason to invest so much scarce cash in upgrades.

    • heeros

I don’t know. I thought 3g was pretty established when the first iPhone came out, and they still didn’t include it because of the battery drain. If apples policy hasn’t changed then it will depend on LTE battery drain if they will include it in the next iPhone.

  • Genjinaro

Happy but not Richard Yarell Happy.

I’m very impressed with the rollout speed of this, I mean wow.
I’m stoked about 1x-Advanced, the CDMA 3G running on the 800Mhz Band & LTE on the 1900Mhz band. Anything is better than the 2.5Ghz band AFAIK,
I’m pissed about no mention of 3G advancements like EVDO Rev B. This would offset the hurt of WiMax making its way out.
I’m loving the fact that Sprint is committed to unlimited data & with this news I’ll be upgrading to an Sprint LTE phone in 2012.

  • Richard Yarrell

Hey losing verizon customers when will any of those USELESS DEVICES ON BIG GET SOME ICE CREAM SANDWICH??? I bet it won’t be before the EVO 3D. We always get the true update here on sprint especially the EVO BRAND of devices.. http://an.droid-life.com/2011/10/07/htc-evo-3d-gets-ice-cream-sandwiched/#dsq-form-area

    • Cree

WOW Rich! Lot’s of animosity towards VZW. HTC devices are dime and dozen. EVO, EVO3D are no different then Thunderbolt, Sensenation, etc…

Regardless if you have Sense 3.0 on Gingerbread, I still use LauncherPro. Sense actually sucks on HTC devices. You can alway root your phone to get the latest OS on to your phone.

So when ICS releases you should be able to root your 3D. Not a big deal to the Android Community.

      Cree

    • squiddy20

And you seriously called me “useless”? What a joke. The link is nothing more than an advertisement for the Evo 3D’s 3D capability. If you notice, the ice cream is coming “out” of the phone and the two girls are looking at it as if it’s real. I would give the article more credit if you could actually see the rest of the text that supposedly says “coming soon”. And I guess you didn’t read the caveat given by the author in that very same article: “It may just be an old poster (hence the coming soon) and the ice cream is meant to show the 3D capabilities.” What a loser. You can’t get one thing right.

    • Chris125

pretty sure that every high end phone that has root will get it. Your EVO 3d is a joke and is 3rd best on its own carrier. Not to mention the fact that none of us verizon customers are “losing” as you say. How’s that wimax coming for you? Oh thats right you probably don’t get a signal unless you go outside. I will continue enjoying my lte and speeds that blow away your evo 3d and yes I am using old outdated tech as you put it with my thunderbolt. Funny thing is that dual core does nothing with shitty service and those 3d cameras? Just another gimmick to get clowns like you to buy it.

    • Justin

Your quite possibly the dumbest man ever conceived. I love sprint, but your an absolute idiot. Do everyone a favor and get off these websites. We would like real information, and to have real conversations. I can’t find the word to express just how stupid you are.

  • Richard Yarrell
  • Alan

for all of you making your frequency arguments, just an fyi that when the nextel customers are moved off of our iden network that 800Mhz spectrum is going to be used for LTE. Just sayin

    • Dwayne

That won’t be done until 2013

  • Bpear96

@Richard Yarrel, you are one of the most annoying trolls i have came across, much worse then the iphone trolls.. We dont care at all that you love sprint and the evo so much.. You dont have to go around insulting other carriers and devices.. im sorry to tell you if you look at the facts Sprints lineup and network is one of the worse.. At&t lineup may be close. Sprints network is good in some areas but terrible in others.. i had sprint in my area and it was terrible compared to a&t and verizon. Alos wimax is just sad.. its sad when at&t and T-mobile souped up 3g network is faster then sprints wimax.. Glad they switched to LTE. Im very happy with my galaxy s ii and straight talk.. but i dont go around trolling every post..

Also i am not saying sprint is bad, if you live in a area with good sprint coverage it is a good carrier

    • ags29

Don’t insult Richard now. The shit he writes is hilaaaaarious, because:

      1) It never fails to mention the EVO. Ever.
      2) A reply/ follow-up by squiddy20 and snowbrdr89 blasting him can always be expected.

Shit is hilarious how they get so into it :D

      • snowbdr89

Oh i dont get way into but its still fun saying hes a pathetic p.o.s. troll. : )

      • Richard Yarrell

Yes they are my FANCLUB a bunch of CLOWNS at best a sad situation they are. But yes this is fun

        • squiddy20

Hahaha!!! Such a ridiculous statement! To have a “fanclub” would imply that we are your fans. Being your fans would imply that we like you, that we adore you, that we look up to you. Reality check: no one likes you, no one looks up to you, no one adores you, no one is your “fan”, and certainly no one is in you “fanclub”. Such a trolling moron. You can’t even get one little sentence right.

          • Chris125

Comprehension or simple understanding of the most basic words are not his strong suit hahah. Always get a good laugh anytime Dick comments because you know it will come out sounding like a 3rd grader posted it. I would not brag about that Dick personally for someone as old as you you would think you at least had some common understanding of the english language. Then again I don’t think there is an app for that so it all makes sense as to why you don’t.

    • Richard Yarrell

Your opinion is definitely a JOKE at best. I have been on this site for a long time my friend it’s you guys that are the NEW JACK’S IN THIS SPACE. So I can only assume that the word TROLL can only be you and the flock of others who post in seclusion at least when I post a comment I want you to see it’s me in the flesh I am not hiding behind some fake name that is FACELESS. What you see in me is what you get without question and rather it’s facebook, the sprint forums, google plus, goodandevo or phonedog and Engadget I am well respected and appreciated. And while I won’t BASH your Galaxy S2 because I applaud Samsung and there innovative ways they still PAIL in comparison to HTC in the update game so keep your galaxy s2 it’s a great device yes it is but ice cream sandwich it won’t see unless it’s rooting otherwise my dualcore EVO 3D will be the first dualcore device to recieve this update MARK THAT DOWN my friend. Work on your secret posts and let us the world really see who you are and stop remaining hidden in the weeds with these dweebs snowbdr89 and squiddy20 be different for a change Mr. Bpear96

      • snowbdr89

Yeah we see you’re bloated head why do we need a pic so you can beat off to it?

        • Richard Yarrell

You guys are real funny.. All Phandroid REJECTS.. @squiddy20 and snowbdr89 as well as chris125..

          • squiddy20

Being “rejects” from Phandroid would mean we were “rejected” from Phandroid. To put it in more simplistic terms you might understand, we would have to be kicked off of Phandroid (*cough cough like you cough cough*) to be a “reject” of the site. I can’t speak for the other two, but I know I can post there under the same username I’ve always had. It’s quite hilarious to see you make an attempt at a comeback, only to fail miserably every single time.

          • Chris125

Sadly I can post with the same username on there. That’s right you can’t so that makes you the reject dick=) Nice try though anything else you want to say to make you look like even more of a clown than you already have in the slew of ignorant comments you post.

          • squiddy20

            @chris125,
What’s with the “sadly” bit? You don’t like the website or something?

      • squiddy20

        1. “Your opinion is definitely a JOKE at best.” Again with this stupid crap? Didn’t your mother teach you any manners? How many times do I have to tell you, an opinion cannot be proven right or wrong. It is a statement of one’s personal beliefs. Nothing more and certainly nothing less. You’re the “joke” for thinking you’re such a high class member of society when in reality you’re on the lowest tier. I mean, you can’t even respect other people’s opinions for christ’s sake! And that’s pretty damn sad.
        2. ” I am well respected and appreciated” Ummm guess again Dick. Just looking at this page alone, all of your comments are rated negatively. All of your comments on your “review” of the Evo 3D are rated negatively. In fact, well over 90% of the comments you make are always rated negatively. If you were so “well respected and appreciated”, would you really have been banned from Phandroid 4 or more times? Would you have been told off and then banned from Android Police as well as Android Central at least once on both websites? Would you get this much animosity and responses against you if you were “well liked”? Please, you’re the posterboy of being “disrespected and unappreciated”. What a delusional whack job.
        3. “…PAIL in comparison…” The word you were looking for is “pale”. The word you spelled means “a bucket” and the sentence would then read “they still [bucket] in comparison…” And you’ve called me useless in the past? Hahaha! I don’t know what’s more useless than 50 year old man who can’t use a simple four letter word in the right context. Such a dolt.
        4. Why should we “show our faces”? There’s no requirement to use our real names as our screen names. You’re the only moron here who uses his real name, Android and Me staff not included. It’s generally bad Internet etiquette to use your real name in most of these sites. I know if I were you, I wouldn’t want to use my real name all over the place. Companies look this stuff up. It’s no wonder you’ve got a shitty job. All a company has to do is google “Richard Yarrell” to find out how much of a pompous, ignorant, self centered jackass you are to pretty much everyone on the Internet. Seriously, google yourself if you don’t believe me. I just googled you and found at least 2 comments that you posted on Phandroid from earlier this year, and they aren’t in the least bit pretty. And this is just on the first page of results. Imagine the crap I could dig up if I bothered to look through all “29,900 results” for “Richard Yarrell”. Yeah, I definitely want to be you with your “great” reputation. Not to mention it obviously pisses you off to not know who you’re insulting. I think I’ll stay “faceless”. But thanks for trying. : )
        5. Finally, I think it’s sad that you’ve lost all other arguments so bad, that you feel the need to somehow reassert yourself by making further arguments that you will undoubtedly lose. Such as this one.

      • Chris125

Well respected by who? The 20 people that come into your soup kitchen? Nobody on any tech site respects or appreciates you for the sole fact that 99% of the garbage you post has nothing to do with the article at hand and either says1. evo 3d is the best and the next evo will rule for years and years(like the evo 3d was supposed to but already has been passsed 2 times on its own carrier) or 2. Verizon is over priced and they suck.

        • Richard Yarrell

Your guys are very entertaining I must say. It’s great to always come back hear and see your USELESS responses that lets me know the life you want everyone to be believe you have you really don’t. All you have time to do is come to androidandme and troll around articles for my comments and reply “”great life you have ” androidandme.com trolls number 1 squiddy20, number 2, snowbdr89, and number 3, chris125.. All Phandroid TROLLS it’s actually pretty sad I must say.. Great life you have gentleman.. Keep up the great trolling life you have.

          • squiddy20

            1. “It’s great to always come back hear…” And the word you were looking for this time is “here”. “Hear” is what you do with your ears, aka “listening”. This further proves that your long winded comment beginning with “” So, why did Sprint go for WiMAX initially? …” is not your words.
            2. “All you have time to do is come to androidandme and troll around articles for my comments” which takes all of 5 minutes using the all important search/find function. It then takes another 5 or so minutes to type a well thought-out comeback. So, all in all, 10 or so minutes isn’t really that big of a deal in the grand scheme of life. But good try.
            3. If I’ve said it once I’ll say it again, one person’s “useless” is another person’s “useful”. Keep on trolling moron.

          • Chris125

Spell check works wonders you know dick. Then again you have such an interesting life that you can only respond in half coherent responses while trying to think of a come back to all the commenters who make you look like a fool. Maybe google search how to write a complete sentence and then try and belittle other members on this site.

  • Interpol91

Definitely excited for this but it has been long overdue for Sprint.

Seeing how sprint has done nothing but lie about their 4G from the very beginning, refuse to turn the 25 towers we have in Michigan to even anything past 15% broadcasting power, and then to completely realize they choose the wrong 4g? in the first place? Fuck this.

Add on our 3G here in Detroit is PISS POOR and slow as my dead grandparents doing it, throw in a few million new iPhone users that will destroy my already PATHETIC 3G , and you have yourself a customer that just stopps paying their sprint bill, wont pay an ETF , and throws away any mail from sprint addressed to me.

Seriously, If I could go sneak into the billing and bend someone high up in charge over a table and a$$f*ck him the same way he’s done it to soooo many americans.

Seriously, people at SPRINT, eat $h!t and die, im going back to tmobile (which just shows how horrible sprint really is.. to go back to someone even worse!)

  • Dirge

Unfortunately for Sprint customers, Sprint may be focusing more on the iPhone in the coming months considering their contract with Apple involves having the majority of their smartphones activations being iPhone 4S.

    Sucks for you, Richard.

  • squidy20

i fuck myself because i am a dumass with no life bitch!

  • squiddy20

fuck me and my fucking soul! i suck verizons dick and get payed so fuck off

    • squiddy20

Wow. An impostor of me? I’m truly flattered. You got several things wrong though.
      1. You used the wrong username for your first post. Is it really so hard to copy/paste the username? How do you miss the double D’s in “squiddy”?
      2. You’re using a profile picture of some pixely thingy with a blue background while I never have and never will.
      3. Is it even possible to “fuck yourself” without using a dildo? I’m fairly certain it’s not humanly possible. Good try though.
      4. You spelled “dumass” wrong. It’s spelled “dumbass”, with a “b”. Soooo, that makes you the “dumass” then, right?
      5. If you’ve been paying attention to anything I’ve ever said to Richard, you’d find out that I am currently a Sprint customer. I’ve been a Sprint customer for several years and have no plans of switching to any other carrier. In fact, I have a Samsung Moment which is a Sprint only phone and was released almost 2 years ago. Not something I can brag about or anything, but its the truth nonetheless. The only reason I might sound like a Verizon fanboy is because: A) it pisses off Richard, B) because I believe in a little something called “objectivity”. I like Sprint. But you’ve got to admit Verizon is doing much better than Sprint ever was.
      What a joke.

  • Richard Yarrell

@squiddy20.. Your a poor laughable soul turn in your sprint I’D we don’t need your customership on the now network.. Trade in that Samsung transform and buy a real device http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-ramps-network-vision-deployment-announces-national-4g-lte-rollout

    • squiddy20

Wow. I guess you can’t read/remember anything past a week. As I have repeatedly said to you, I have a Samsung Moment, not a Motorola Razr, not a Samsung Transform. Either get it right or shut up. Unless you enjoy making yourself look like a total fool?
Who’s this “we” you speak of? You’re basically the only person that has a real problem with me. I don’t see anyone else on this page insulting me besides the person who made a laughable excuse of an impostor, and you. I also think it’s completely hilarious that you think you’re the “spokesman” for Sprint. You’re so biased, self centered, and uneducated, it’s a wonder you’ve made it this far in life. So please, for your own good, don’t make insults/threats that you can in no way backup or keep. Such a sad little girl.

  • Melissa

So it looks like I won’t buy a new phone until then. :)

” So, why did Sprint go for WiMAX initially? Well, my guess is that the carrier simply wanted to be ahead of the competition when it comes to outing a “4G network”

Unused spectrum can only be held onto for a small time. If not utilized in this time frame, the said spectrum needs to be forfeited. Sprint’s 2.5Ghz spectrum was due to expire. WiMAX was a ready technology. LTE was just talk. Yes, being first was beneficial, but it wasn’t the main ploy for going WiMAX.

In Short, Sprint really didn’t have a choice. It was move it of lose it.
The move to a ready technology was imminent or they would lose the spectrum necessay for the rollout. LTE was not a ready technology at the time of sprints wimax rollout. It was not in complete control of Sprint for deciding on WiMAX or LTE. At least they were smart to include LTE hardware into the WiMAX infrastructure when building it. So yes sprint was extremely smart because future proofing there network basically future proofs all the devices on the network

Please understand the provisioning of their premise before condemning them for the move.

Sprint gets a bad wrap no matter what they do. But it is also important to understand the great things they do as well.

This news is very useful and exciting for Sprint and their customers as well as potential subscribers alike.

And pretty much all of the comment above is bits and pieces of Slammer’s comments (mainly 1 and 3) posted here: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Benefits-from-Sprints-upcoming-LTE-network_id22816.
So basically, you’re a plagiaristic, ignorant, sad excuse for a man trying to pass other’s words off as your own. Wanna know how I found it? I copied and pasted a chunk of each section into google to find where else it was posted. I was unsurprised to find it was someone else’s words. You’re too stupid to write that fluently. Not to mention you’ve done exactly this in the past. You’re an old dog, using the same old tricks. What. A. Joke.

BTW, I can interpret that “Ray S”, the author of the above linked article, is you Richard. Way to go. You *almost* successfully pulled off using someone else’s words as your own. To use your own word, THAT’S “useless”.

      • squiddy20

Not to mention the fact that you seriously expected us (or at least me) to believe that those were your words above. Words like “infrastructure”, “provisioning”, or “premise”? You can’t even spell a simple word such as “portfolio” or use the right form of “your/you’re” or “their/they’re/there” in the right context. Writing style (or in your case, lack thereof) reveals a lot about a person. Go get a better education Dick. You sorely need it before you start insulting me about being “useless”.

  • MaxSteel

OMG!!! All of you STFU. Especially you Dick! No one gives a SHIT about what you have to say. Your opinions are worthless just like your life. WORTHLESS!

It’s sad but I no longer have any faith in Sprint’s future. They leveraged the whole company against the iPhone 4S. They made a deal with them that will bankrupt their company if the iPhone 4S doesn’t sell good on their network. Sorry, but the iPhone 4S can’t hold up to Android for very long, the SGS2 already beats it, in a month or two there will be 5 or 6 Android phones superior to the iPhone 4S. In addition, Sprint’s only 1 of 3 carriers who has the iPhone 4S so they won’t even be exclusive. Anyways, Sprint’s going down, they bet the company on a product that won’t be able to save them. They should have kept focus on the all the top of the line Android phones, even removed the weaker Android phones. So that every Sprint Android user would be a power user.

    • Chris125

The thing is that the iphone will sell well all the way until next year. I mean look how well the i4 sold and it was really under speced compared to what android had to offer. It is all about what people want and most who get an iphone would not get an android anyway and vice versa. The iphone has a huge following and I think it coming to sprint may actually get some of the tmo subscribers to jump ship if they do not want to get stuck with at&t if the merger goes through and does not want an iphone that they are stuck with edge speeds on.

      • Paul

I know the iPhone 4S, even though it’s not their beloved iPhone 5, will do well. But for a cell phone company to bet their entire company on a single product, and not even be exclusive for that product but being 1 of 3 carriers offering it, seems like they’ve made a grave mistake.

  • Paul

And what’s the point of their LTE network? They just hedged the entire company on iPhone 4S and it doesn’t even support WiMax or LTE. They’ve made a huge mistake and it’ll cost them dearly, could be the whole company. Really the AT&T / T-Mobile merger shouldn’t go through and T-Mobile should buy Sprint and start merging their customers into their network. With the power of T-Mobile / Sprint they’d be a better 3rd contender against AT&T and Verizon. But I’m only dreaming. AT&T will buy-out T-Mobile and Sprint will go Bankrupt and within 5 years U.S consumers will get 2 choices for carriers, AT&T or Verizon.

  • snowbdr89

That hemroid dick has 6 hidden due to low comments on here, i think thats grounds for the boot so we dont have to see his pathetic dumbass on here anymore!!

  • johnld

Remember when reading the comments mainly showed opinions on the article as well as posts regarding relevant information? how about you kids who want to have troll fights just do it over an instant messaging service or something.

  • johnld

also i’m pretty excited about the lte rollout as i’m still using my samsung moment from the android dinosaur age and have been waiting for a decent reason to upgrade. the current wimax speeds weren’t really good enough to bother with an upgrade imo.
