LG launches Prada v3.0, coming to stores in January

LG and Prada have teamed up yet again to deliver an Android smartphone geared toward the elegant crowd. According to the press release, the LG Prada 3.0 “combines the unmistakable style of Prada with LG’s innovative technology.”

The LG Prada 3.0 will run Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread when it launches in January. The specs on the device are pretty much in line with the current crop of high-end Android Smartphones, except for the 1GHz dual-core processor and 800×480 display. The full specs:

  • 4.3-inch Nova Plus TFT-LCD display with Gorilla Glass (though with an 800×480 pixel resolution – seriously??)
  • 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor
  • 8 megapixel autofocus rear camera, with 1080p/30fps video recording
  • Front Facing Camera (unknown megapixel count)
  • 8GB onboard storage, expandable to 40GB with 32GB  microSD card slot
  • NFC
  • 1,540 mAh battery

Though the LG Prada phone is running Android 2.3.7, it is running a UI overlay that appears to be a monochromed version of LG’s Android overlay. The LG overlay isn’t our favorite of the custom skins Android handset-makers are keen of putting on their devices, but the monochromed version looks pretty slick.

We don’t know whether the LG Prada 3.0 will be making its way stateside and have a hard time believing it would perform well if it does make its way across the pond. Anyone out there interested in the LG Prada 3.0?

If they want to compete with apple in the “status symbol” crowd, they really need to make sure the internal hardware is also top notch.

    • faun

I don’t think the people buying this phone will really care (or even know) what hardware is inside it. What they’ve provided should be more than enough to run the software smoothly and look good.

      • Futureboy

Agreed. File this under, “Exclusively for people with more money than sense.”

        • charliethesuperturtle

          Ha future boy
Why can’t LG make ALL their phones look good?

      • http://normanma.net/ darkhorse166

The monochrome doesn’t look too bad either – I dig it. I’d love someone to port the icons and graphics into something like a CM or LauncherPro skin.

  • zyphbear

Wow, I’m surprised more high end brands don’t have their own co-branded devices now. This could be an untapped market money maker, like the Chanel Android and the Louie Vitton Android.

I guess you just have to make sure they are the style for more than a that Season’s fashion or it might not sell.

    • bruce080

Well, I guess I’m not an expert, but do we really see Prada, Chanel, and Louie Vitton teaming up to make other status symbol products? I don’t recall any Prada TVs or Louie Vitton cars, do you?

    • kazahani

Dolce & Gabbana Andy plush dolls!

      They’re comming!

  • Deeds

If they want this to be relevant, they have to update it to ICS shortly after launch

    • http://pixelswim.com Steve Heinrich

That might be true but I imagine that someone getting a Prada phone isn’t scouring the internet looking for an ICS release date for this phone… but maybe. I can’t really put myself in that category, so I can’t know for sure.

  • BiGMERF

they cn name it whatever they want.. android enthusiasts still know its an LG….. smh

    • stenzor

I don’t think celebrities, who will be most likely to buy these types of phones, know any android enthusiasts

  • HoLfElDeR

    Too female…

    • kazahani

Umm I think that’s the point.

    • Panatella

Thats my whole issue! I kinda like the styling and the monochrome shell, BUT… Im a guy with a beard and i will never, ever be taken seriously if i pull a device out of my pants that has written PRADA all over it!

  • Trinhbo

Apparently the rich don’t care about top-end specs, having color anywhere on their phones, or a long battery life.

    • thechad

      well put

    • Andrew Castro

Battery life? Obviously you are not rich.

They do what every rich person does when the phone dies: throw it away and have their assistant buy a new one.

  • dpleus

If it was purple, and branded Prada, my wife would beat me up until I bought it for her. But that’s because it would be purple, being Prada would just be icing. Any idea on Off Contract pricing for this?

    • Andrew Castro

If you have to ask……… Kind of pricing I would guess.

The LG Prada KF900, last Prada phone released on 2008, sells new still for over $200. Crazy huh?

Glad to see it supports micro SD cards :)

I’ll wait for it to be a free upgrade phone on T-Mobile… ;)

While I may not want this phone for myself, I can see what they are trying to accomplish here. Although, I think it might be a little difficult to tap into the iPhone’s status symbol and recognition. But, I imagine these will be marketed in very very specific places and markets and they might sell a few. For me, this site might be the only place I see this phone.

  • nsnsmj

Really nice looking phone. Even the black & white theme looks pretty good. The only negative I have is the resolution. Needs to be at least qHD.

  • http://alxrock.deviantart.com alxrock

Wow, TokiDoki, Prada, I wonder what other fashion companies will be coming next.

  • ArticulateFool

LG… Never again until they prove they know how to build a reliable device.

  • Jimmy13

Some poor guy is gonna have to buy this for his wife/GF and he is gonna be sad about it.

  • kzlife

I will never get an LG-phone cuz I’ve never seen anything good coming from them :P
    Or have I missed something?

    • Mykhaylo Tkachuk

Their monitors weren’t so bad :)

    • kazahani

      They make good washing machines!

      • kzlife

        Haha x)
They do great monitors and other stuff.. but their phone’s are mostly crappy.. saw the hands on with the LG Prada on engadget and the interface was.. UGLY!!

  • http://ilysespieces.tumblr.com Ilyse Rose

After how terribly they screwed up the G2X I have no faith in an LG Android phone. Until they prove me wrong I will avoid them the same as I avoid Samsung.

    • kzlife

      Why do you avoid Samsung?
I hated them before and I swore I would never get one but they have changed a lot the past years.. and now I bought the sgs2 :P
But I might switch to the nexus if I can as it does get hot sometimes and the mic is barely working.. might have gotten a faulty device though..

  • Oskar Wismierski

No HD resolution? No ICS? In a high end device launching in January?

    Not impressed..

  • jamal

Not saying it’s a bad phone but LG could have done better.

  • Samar

Launching in Jan 2012 and no ICS built-in..why ?

  • kidslice

The Occupy folks should love this… a phone designed for the 1%-ers that can afford Prada…

  • eioous

Wow a phone worth WAY MORE than what its worth because of a label.

  • Hall Lo

LOL a toy for the rich… what do u expect? Still remember those Nokia 8800, or the Vertu phones? They have so crappy specs but just because of the brand many rich people still buy them…

  • BigCiX

LG needs to release gingerbread for my damn Thrill!!!

  • Shadowlore

I don’t know about anyone else.. but every time I see a ‘branded’ phone like this.. I find myself wanting to throw up a little bit. They always seem to be one-off products that rarely get any support.. and are quickly buried under all the real phones.

This whole news story this morning just made me roll my eyes, and go: “meh”.

  • eliander mendoza

LG barely update their smartphones that’s why i don’t buy a smartphone from them….

  • myandroid99

strange….i havent heard of prada before

  • CTown

… it looks like a boxy Galaxy S!

  • vid500

Seriously why did prada make a contract with LG, they just don’t make high end products that are worth ther money. Sori LG, but it’s the truth.

  • PaulPaulson

Designer phones are stupid. That’s all I have to say.

  • Skis03

This is the new phone that will be hacked to show all of us celebs personal nude photos.

  • oko loko

I like this monochromed UI. Looks quite elegant.

  • thaghost

    2.3.7?

  • Torrance Barber

Nothing says style like launching a sharp phone with Gingerbread and waiting for ICS update……wait

  • pritams

Where’s the watch? That was the only thing which was cool last time…

  • humidity

    The Galaxy Nexus for girls/women!

  • donger

    o wow

  • Louis A

This’s actually a great great phone based on specs!

  • smisa27

I actually remember when the first Prada phone came out. That was a pretty cool phone back then. The specs weren’t super amazing, but it was a sleek and sexy looking phone. This one again seems to be similar in respects that it’s not the best spec phone out there, but it is rather sleek and sexy to give it that sex appeal to the higher end crowd.

  • sgumer

my friend had a prada phone. it looked nice, but did not work that well. the screen is pretty big, but i wonder how much it will cost.
