Sony debuts new headset, SmartWatch, NFC tags as Smart Extras for Android

Even after all their huge announcements yesterday, Sony is still hard at work showing off hardware and gadgets at CES today. Sony just released some press info for three new accessories they’re calling Smart Extras for Android.

First up is the Smart Wireless Headset pro, “the Bluetooth headset that does it all.” Connected to your Android phone via Bluetooth, the Smart Wireless Headset pro features a small receiver that displays text messages, emails, calendar notifications and more. You can also disconnect the headset from your phone and use it as a standalone MP3 player.

The SmartWatch is Sony’s answer to, well, smart watches. Used as a companion to your Android device, Sony’s SmartWatch will actually feature special downloadable apps that will be available from the Android Market.

The most interesting of Sony’s Smart Extras are SmartTags. SmartTags are little NFC tags that can be placed at work, in the car or next to your bed that are used for activating a “pre-configured profile” for your device, such as the alarm clock or GPS. Sony says SmartTags are customizable, so we imagine there’s some pretty creative things people are gonna do with these.

What do you think of Sony’s Smart Extras? Any of them look enticing? Personally, I’d like some SmartTags. If nothing else, just to play around with.

They sound like a pretty interesting bunch of accessories on the surface. I know they are brand spankin new, but i’d like to actually see them at work, at least in a demo vid, before rendering a decision.

Overall, I’m loving the direction in which things are moving with all of these Android “extras”. Very exciting…

Did you know the Wireless headset pro supports microSD cards?!?!
So if your phone ever runs out of power, you can either listen to the integrated radio in the Wireless headset or just take you the microSD card out from your phone and put it in the Wireless headset to play your music.
So excited! I have the MW600 and love this little thing. Can’t wait for this one to come out.

“the Bluetooth headset that does it all.”

Does it stop the wearer from looking like a tool?

All you need is a phone with NFC support. Sony has an app on the market used to configure the tags.

oooh the “Live View 2″, I’ve been waiting for that one. New name sounds a wee bit less silly too. ^^

  • David Sumner

I’m definitely feeling the watch and the smart wireless head set…

  • classic_hero

    Chyea! love Sony

Smart tags look interesting. Maybe they can be integrated by car companies and local shops can integrated them. Think about it you get into your car and your phone turns GPS and Bluetooth on and connects to the car. You walk into your favorite coffee shop scan tags at the door and your order is ready.

What i tell ya? SONY is going to take the cake this upcoming year!!!

I cant wait for the Live View 2! I freaking love the idea of a smart watch and the more choices the better, Velocity Micro never released their cruz watch they showed off last year, and the first live view sucked. So this, the Wimm One, and possibly the i’m watch are the only slightly good choices I’ve seen. I hope this one turns out great!
