Android 3.2 update for US WiFi and 3G HTC Flyer now available

htc_flyer_honeycomb

The US HTC Flyer is finally getting its Android 3.2 update from HTC. According to several different reports, the Honeycomb update for the WiFi and 3G HTC Flyers started rolling out late last night. The upgrade from Android 2.3 should bring US HTC Flyer owners in line with what European Flyer users have been enjoying for quite some time. The HTC Flyer Android 3.2 brings with it better support for HTC Scribe.

While it’s always exciting to hear about new updates (even though the update was promised more than eight months ago), we’re also sad to report that Best Buy is no longer carrying the WiFi HTC Flyer. We’re assuming that Best Buy’s price drop of the HTC Flyer back in October was meant to burn through excessive inventory in order to make room for HTC’s next tablet offering expected to make its debut at Mobile World Congress in February.

With Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) already in the wild, we can’t help but wonder how long it will take HTC to send out the next update for the device. If HTC keeps things moving at the same pace, Android 4.0 for the HTC Flyer may be available by July of 2012.

I’m a HUGE CM fan… If this got CM7 or CM9, I would totally spend a 100 dollars more to get it over the Kindle Fire…

Seriously? The Flyer is getting 3.2 when my G-Slate has only 3.1 and didn’t even make this list for ICS!! I will never buy a LG product again.

same here man, LG is full of crap, when the update came on mine, it broke the USB port and they wont fix it for me!!!

Next time, go with Asus. So far, their track record for pushing updates is exemplary.

I agree. The TF Prime is getting ICS soon and I’m sure the original TF will get it as well. Are you listening HTC? (Looks at Samsung)

That’s why I have a TF as well, I want great hardware that stays updated.

Ha. That’s awesome news for Flyer owners!

I’m sure I’ll be getting a call from my mother pretty soon… “I got comfortable using my tablet, but I updated it, and it’s different. What the hell happened to it!?”

    Relax ma, it’s honeycomb.

“honey-que? I don’t care, I don’t want it, tell me how to change it back.”

    Thanks HTC!

I’m sure that call will be coming as the Honeycomb update completely resets the home screen.

I couldn’t wait, so I rooted and upgraded to HC a few weeks back. Time to head over to XDA-Developers to see if anyone is working on a new ROM based off of the official release. I love the Android development community!

I have the Sprint version of this, Evo View 4G, its a pretty good tablet. The 1.5GHz single core Snapdragon S3 is a pretty solid CPU. We got our 3.2 update at the end of Dec, its pretty cool.

Unfortunately it’s still not available for my imported flyer (it’s the Asian one, from Singapore I think, what can I say, it’s not officially available in my country).

I guess I’ll just have to keep waiting…

    Wait!

Isnt this the first Android 3.0+ version release from HTC?

What about Sense? Did they drop it completely? From the picture it looks like Vanilla Honeycomb!

just got mine a few days back for the HTC View. Great little tablet, Im rooted and Rom’ed now mostly cause I’m not a sense fan. Those who picked one up for $220 during the sale scored. I hope HTC takes another stab at it, this is one of my favorite 7″ out there.

I have the View which was updated a while ago and I have to say while it’s a nice lil device, it really seems to lack power and optimization for HC. It really shows a lacking while browsing, the pages do not load well while scrolling and tabs do not stay in storage, meaning a video will completely reload if you get a pop-up or tab over for whatever reason. Also, It’s odd but when you load the next page the browser will jump to the top of the current page, reload it, then load the next page. These issues make for a very annoying browsing experience, especially for people that like to stream videos.
