Sprint has outlined a rather aggressive LTE rollout strategy, with implementation set to begin in the middle of 2012 and be completed by the end of 2013. With this LTE rollout, Sprint has also promised vast improvements to their 3G network, which has suffered miserably since the iPhone was released on Sprint a few months ago.

Though we knew LTE was coming early this year, we have had no details on which markets would be first to experience Sprint’s next-gen network until today. Sprint took to the Twitters to announce that Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio would be the first four markets live on LTE. Furthermore, these markets would also be the first to receive the full 3G network upgrades.

As a Sprint customer, I’m excited to see Sprint ditching WiMax and adopting LTE, which offers impressive (and, perhaps excessive) speeds for a smartphone, with AT&T’s network topping out around 65 mbps download speeds. Hopefully before Sprint’s network goes live, handset makers will figure out a way to greatly improve battery life on LTE networks, which is a bit less than abysmal in its current state.
