HTC Sensation gets Android 4.0 with Sense 4.0 thanks to HTC Endeavor port

With the official Android 4.0 “early access preview” for the HTC Sensation expected to drop any day now, we’re sure that many of you are keeping a close eye on your notification bar to see if you’ll be one of the lucky few chosen to test the new update. But if you simply can’t wait to get of taste of HTC’s latest Android 4.0 build with HTC Sense 4.0, we have some great news for you. A leaked ROM based on the HTC Endeavor (now known as the HTC One X ) has been ported over to the HTC Sensation.

ROM ports are not anything new, but this is the first time we’re seeing an HTC ROM build which was created for a Tegra 3 device be ported to a phone running on a Snapdragon S3 chip. As you might expect, there are still quite a few issues with the ROM on the HTC Sensation, but TripNRaVer and other developers on RootzWiki are working around the clock to make the new ROM as functional as possible. For now, the Sense 4.0 launcher, lock screen and HTC’s keyboard have been disabled due to the resolution differences between the HTC Endeavor (720) and Sensation (qHD), but we’re confident that those working on the ROM will be able to get the graphics scaled down to size in no time.

Some of the new features that we’re seeing for the first time in this ROM include a new clock application which looks similar to Google Earth and displays the time and temperature of cities across the globe, a dual-tabbed task manager which  switches between running applications and those consuming the most battery, Microsoft’s Skydrive integration, 3D carousel animation when swiping between panes in applications, and improved copy/paste functionality which does not require a long-press when you want to paste test into a field.

As you can see in the video, the HTC Endeavor ROM port to the HTC Sensation is definitely buggy and slow, but we expect things to get a lot better over the next week or two. For a closer look at some of the new UI elements within HTC Sense 4.0, check out the image gallery below. We know there are many of you who despise HTC Sense and most other custom OEM skins, but I’m sure we can all agree that HTC’s latest version is a welcome improvement.

      Полностью с тобой согласен!

This also means that the rezound should be getting this port. Pretty exciting!

Was thinking the exact same thing. I think the only reason the Sensation got it first is because the device it owned by more devs.

      • nick

doubt it because trip doesn’t have a Rezound

  • AnthonyRyan

Official OTA that’s what I’m waiting for

    • Jeff Pan

Same here. How long would it take for T-Mobile Sensation?

  • spazby

    Very cool

Any plans on adding some type of gallery to scroll through images on articles so we don’t have to open a new page for every image?

Thought I read in one of the articles about ICS for the new htc one x , its android 4.03 but when released it should be updated to 4.05, so why are all these ports that are being released saying android 4.0, I say wait for the official update next month :-)

    • delinear

According to the video (1:08) this is also Android 4.03 (with Sense 4.0), which already means it’s ahead of my 4.02 Nexus that I bought specifically because I wanted quicker updates. As usual the dev community are ahead of the game…

one, this is just a leak
two, google screwed up with the galaxy nexus. too many variants, should of been one hardware with the stuff enabled for that carrier

  • slurms mckenzie

teribble they dont even let ics shine its all covered up by sense

  • Billy

Woot! I really love ICS .. hoping it starts popping up quickly across devices .. plus the new chrome is the bomb!

  • revs

WHAT THE HELL MAKES U THINK IT CAN RUN 4.0 ?????????????????????????????????????????

MY MT4G out performed it in every way

    • Matthew Reynolds

you’re complaining about a custom rom to htc? wtf?

      • revs

Sense is not a custom rom I have to use launcher pro bc my sensation cannot handle sense

    • Nick

If your Sensation is running slow, you have obviously done something that is making it slow. My Sensation runs Sense fine, has 76 apps (counting bloatware), and at least five apps running all the time and my Sensation is never slow.

  • Ironzey Lewis

That’s slow? Looks good to me. Sense isn’t looking too bad this update might be just the thing my Sensation needs to keep me from throwing it out the window.

  • Ironzey Lewis

Off topic, I think EVERY device capable of recording video should come with a tripod.

  • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

Call me crazy, but I love it

  • KevinN

I’m an HTC fan but Sense 4.0 looks like a fail!!

  • Hall Lo

To me Sense 4.0 is overdone…. it looks a bit clumsy to me

  • Nick

I don’t know what to think of this. The only thing I hope they keep the Sense music player though. I love the DLNA support built in and SRS. The Android music player and Google Music app suck.

  • Moosa Mahsoom

One of my predictions will happen…, One S could become better than One X. The MDP MSM8960 benchmarks show that tegra 3 is no match CPU wise. but, GPU wise both are on par, that is under 720p resolution.

  • Ata

So when will the FULL ROM (everything that works 100%) be updated? I want it so bad! Please reply! :)

  • Dane

So the new update for the htc sensation 4G will be Ice cream 4.0 with sense 4.0?I heard it was getting sense 3.6?

  • Cor

my HTC Sensation 1.5 Gb updated to “4.0″ after that i can’t connect to HTC Sense server via HTC Hub app. So lame… what can i do, who can help me %-(((
