Samsung takes to twitter to squash Galaxy S IV rumors

It’s pretty clear that many of you are already excited about what the Samsung Galaxy S IV will offer when it is unveiled next year. Rumor has it that Samsung’s next flagship device will be unveiled in late February of 2013 with a quad-core Exynos chip, LTE connectivity, and a 5-inch display wrapped in a body that’s not too different from the Galaxy S III.

Apparently not happy with the details that are now circulating the web, Samsung has posted a tweet from its @SamsungTomorrow account, claiming that the rumors are not true.

It’s not often that Samsung or any other manufacturer speaks up about rumors. If you ask me, Samsung is simply trying to do a little bit of damage control. The Galaxy S III has been a huge success so far, but it’s only been on the market for a few months. If the tech world starts talking about the Galaxy S IV too soon, consumers may wait things out rather than buying the product that’s currently on the market.

What are your thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy S IV rumor and Samsung’s reaction? Are they trying to hide something or simply trying to reign things in to keep the focus on this year’s Galaxy S III?

I don’t think they’re trying to hide anything. Like you said, I think they’re just trying to maximize sales. And I agree with them. Right now is time to focus on the GS3 and not future phones (unless you want a Nexus, but even then, that won’t kill GS3 sales).

    Surely Apple wouldn’t play like that. They would try to ban any rumors about Samsung, because they already have a patent for sharing information through rumors.

Releasing the GSIV in March would give the GSIII a shorter life span, but Samsung would be able to get a leg up on Apple by having the new device on the market for a good 6 months before the new iteration of the iPhone is released.

Releasing a device 10 months after the previous device (May 2012 – March 2013) is not really drastically “soon” in my book. Samsung doesn’t have to stick to Apple’s 12-month release cycle.

I’m going to go with it being false altogether. It’s six months from now (supposed release date) and that’s not too bad for an early ‘leak’ and usually on par with other major releases outside the Nexus line.

They shouldn’t be squashing the rumor to keep sales of the SIII strong, as people always have the thought, “what’s coming out next and should I wait?” You gotta make a choice at some point in time, you can’t just keep holding out forever. The SIII is a great device and I think people would be selling themselves short if they have the ability to get one now and wait it out. The changes from something like the OG Epic or the OG Evo (which those in this situation are probably running) are massive and well worth an upgrade. The changes from the SIII to whatever the SIV will be won’t be all that big of a deal more than likely.

I would say it’s highly probable that Samsung is working on there next iteration of their Galaxy S line. It’s not to say that these rumors aren’t true but I think it’s to early for leaks or people to be reading to much into them. Every year phones get better so if you’re waiting for the best phone its eventually going to be passed by the next iteration of the phone. Its about finding a phone that’s going to be updated and last for a minimum of 1 year. Samsung doesn’t want people on the fence about upgrading now or waiting 6 months to get their next Galaxy S when people might pull the trigger on a phone that’s released by another company and loose business. I agree with Samsung and saying rumors are just that, rumors.

The Galaxy S3 was announced in May. A March release isn’t really THAT early.

I;m glad the rumors are false. I really would like for the s line to stay at its current screen size and not get any bigger. If you want something bigger then get the note which I will give a try when it comes to sprint.

glad to see that the rumors are not true. as others have pointed out, this kind of rumors would really dampen some of the sales for GSIII, esp as we get closer to the holidays.

just for fun, i’ll play the conspiracy theorist here… what if the rumors were started as a way to dampen the iphone announcement news cycle? then put out a statement to counter the rumor and refocus everyone’s attention back to the gsIII? Probably a loooonggggg stretch.

This is ridiculous. If I had the attitude of waiting 6 more months for the “next” phone release, I would probably never upgrade. Why get the GSIV when I could wait for the GSV, etc…
