HTC One X Jelly Bean update rolling out in Europe, Asia, South America

htc-one-x-home

The long overdue Android 4.1 update for the HTC One X is finally here. Users in Asia, Europe and South America are reporting that the update is available for unlocked HTC One X phones (CID_038 & CID_044). From what we can gather, the Android 4.1 update with HTC Sense 4+ is being pushed out in two separate parts: a smaller 1.25-1.6 MB file followed by the main 357-364 MB Android 4.1 update.

If you’re not sure which HTC One X you have, you can easily check by downloading a CID app from Google Play. If you have not already received the OTA update notification, you can try to manually ping HTC’s update servers by going to Settings > About > Software updates >Check now.

htc-one-x-jb htc-one-x-jb2 htc-one-x-home

Unfortunately, there’s no indication that the Android 4.1 update with HTC Sense 4+, Google Now, Project Butter, offline text-to-speech and advanced notifications will be coming to carrier-branded HTC One Xs. Based on HTC’s track record, we should expect to see the update on carrier-branded phones in Europe starting in 1-2 weeks. AT&T customers will probably have at least another month before the update is released since their device is based on the HTC One XL which is powered by a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor instead of the quad-core Tegra 3 chip found in the international HTC One X. .

If you’re one of the lucky owners of an unlocked HTC One X, let us know how you like your new Jelly Bean flavored Android update.

Nothing for the CID__001 yet :(

    • tad zaleski

If I am rooted will I still get update?

      • DROID Sam

Probably not. Rooted devices typically don’t get official Android OTA updates since the software has been tweaked or modified. If you want the update you’ll probably have to flash back to a base build for the HTC One X and lose root.

        • Siem

Bull poop, if you only unlocked and rooted you will still get the update but you probably will lose root afterwards.

Sorry, this update is for the international and unlocked version.
since you have the At&t variant, you’ll have to wait until At&t pushes out the update.

      • Bpear96

When did he say he was using the AT&T variant? Im pretty sure there is a Tegra 3 model with CID 001. The international one x has AT&T/Straight talk bands as well.

  • G12__

Can you guys who are getting the update post your CID codes so we can see what phones HTC are allowing this update for?

    • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

For now, it looks like it’s still only hitting devices with CID_038 & CID_044. we’re keeping an eye on a few different sources and will update the article if new notice the Android 4.1 update is hitting any other CIDs.

      • G12__

        Cool. Thanks Nick.
Looks like HTC__001 owners are hitting the ‘Check Now’ button like fury, me included.
We should be next, as I understand it HTC__001 is Europe WWE (worldwide English). CID__044 is Asia WWE and CID__038 is either Aftrica or South America WWE from what I can tell. Please, feel free to correct my mistakes and/or fill in the blanks!

Makes sense that HTC will roll out an update region by region so their servers aren’t getting totally hammered. But waiting is the hardest part….

What a tease, I really hope that carriers push out their updates quicker than expected. The only bloatware I use from At&t is their data usage app…but besides that everything else is pretty meh. Kinda unfortunate as there are people spending time to update and build the bloatware that is pushed by the carriers.

    • http://htcsource.com Nick Gray

Carrier testing involves a lot more than just updating their apps to work with the latest version of Android. AT&T and other service providers to extensive radio testing to fine tune wireless connectivity for individual networks.

Also, the HTC One X on AT&T is really the HTC One XL. This means the software build is different since the HTC One X and HTC One XL run two different processors.

      • spintrex

Ah didn’t know that, thanks Nick… always wondered why it took so long. Do you think there would be similar improvements to the XL?

Got my JB and Sense 4+ update. Runs smooth like butter overall. But Google Now isn’t working yet, checked my phone and my sibling’s, same result. Slightly better battery life.

HTC__001 unbranded UK No jb update as yet. Htc are taking the piss now, looks like my next phone will be the nexus 5.

    • Laszlo

The thing what I really can not understand, that why can’t HTC communicate ANYTHING about the updates. All the manufacturers can normally communicate about the updates except HTC.

Please just give us an estimated deadline. :( I know that it’s hard, but I want to know how much more should I wait. If they say, that the update for cid_032 will come 2 weeks later, it’s fine, just say something…

  • hgjfg

    How to get the CID?

    • g12

install ‘CID Getter’ from the Play Store. Run it, your CID code will be at the top of the screen.

  • raymer

That should help us in the still coming soon.

  • Omid

still no update in Iran… pushing that ” check now ” button every day.. . I’m kind of impatient!!

  • Vince

HTC_102 cid, checked for updates but nothing. I’m so disappointed with HTC support. Still using ICS 4.0.3 :((

    • Ole

Wut? Not even 4.0.4 which was released in summer? I have also HTC_102, and still waiting for the update. I bought it in Germany, maybe I should buy it in Norway instead:p

Whatever… what can possible take so long? How much difference can it be on those phones? And wouldn’t HOX+ JB work just as fine on HOX, I mean, not much differences there are they?

This might be my last HTC phone, probably will be sniffing on a nexus-phone next time.

  • g12__

Yesterday I heard a rumor from a friend of a friend whop knows a guys who works for HTC, so I can’t verify. But, I heard that the JB update for the One X would be released to day (Sunday 2nd). As I say, I can’t verify this, but lots of sites started reporting from 5pm GMT that a worldwide update for unlocked HTC one X’s and S’s has been released!!
Nothing on my phone as yet, CID is HTC__001.

    Anyone else had anything??

    • g12__

I mean unbranded, not unlocked. ;)

  • Gman

Nope nothing on my phone unbranded htc__001

  • g12__

Still nothing for me either, HTC__001
    Grrrr……

  • g12__

Looks like the Sunday rumor was just that, a rumor.
And so the waiting continues. I’m quite a patient person, but it’s beginning to annoy me that virtually every other device that will be updated to Jelly Bean has either had the update or has an update completion date in place, so they know the latest date the update will arrive. HTC need to work on their communication and start letting the user community know what’s happening with their products.
Or am I just getting impatient and over-reacting. Anyone else feel like they’ve been left in the dark by HTC?

  • rx7

No cid 001 Update on UK unlocked device , does anyone know a schedule for this ??

  • raymer

..i emailed them on Saturday, a week after first hearing of the update, and got this back last night – http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/6097/htcltrx.jpg …they dont know there arse from their tit !!

  • g12__

That’s exactly what everyone’s complaining about. There’s been no communication from HTC at all around dates, deadlines or schedules.
Although, I did hear there were bugs with the limited Asia and Singapore release of Jelly Bean for the HOX, so maybe that’s the reason for the delay. But telling us would be nice.

  • death1601

I really love my HOX but HTC is starting to piss me off. Is it such a problem to give us some damn deadline about the update. As w00x said: I’m going to kill puppies!!!

  • luke888

Im waiting for the update purely as im hoping that it might help out my standby time … Ive noticed that the bigger a company like Htc gets; the slower the updates become … fair play to Apple (and im NOT an Apple fan at all) for ever 1 update Android produces, Apple brings out 2 !! … anyway at least Android is better than naffy Blackberry, but tbh i think its only time when Windows become the best (my wifes windows phone is fantastic apart from the small expensive app store)

Anyway ….. FOR PETES SAKE HURRY UP HTC !!! and pull your finger out of your bum-hole !!

  • gavinb

Anyone in the UK received this update yet?

  • filter99

UK CID_001 and still no update – getting beyond a joke now, especially as rooted can get 4.2

  • mo007

HTC one x CID_001 unbranded in UK, just sent HTC an email on there website explaining that for this reason i will NEVER be purchasing another one of there devices.

i was a massive HTC fan but there customer service experience is terrible and its either a NEXUS or Samsung from now on!

how could it take them so long to bring out an already released update for an unbranded phone… RIDICULOUS!!!

  • David

Just called HTC UK customer support (4th December) and asked when we can expect relase of Jelly bean. They said that that w ecan can expect it in weeks rather than days. I then challenged them about the HTC website saying all phones should recieve the upate within 45 days of initial release (30th October) and the agent said assured me that we WOULD definately recieve the update before that time elapses.

So… still having to keep waiting

  • Dan

So going by the post above ^ by ‘David, ‘ the latest date we will receive the update by is Friday14th December.

It had better appear before that date, I’m getting anxious now. If it doesn’t, we are perfectly entitled to rant and rave.

  • w00x

If it doesn’t come by Mid-December, I am unlocking the bitch and putting a custom ROM on there. I’ve had it! I’ve been waiting for a month now. It’s been A MONTH since HTC said that they are releasing the update. Ridiculous.

  • Pj

this is defo my last htc handset i been a htc user for 5 years now and i just feel they dont value the customers and stead fast loyal ones too.
the updates get slower and slower and theres nothing more bloody annoying to see some smug git with a samsung s3 waving his jellybean in your face.

So after the HOX gets it update htc are residing in my memory of the good old days and long live the s3 lte I have now. only problem is love the s3 but the signal/Ariel is pants and this is the only major headache i have with it.

soz htc but my patients ran thin.

  • Gman

Anybody know the contact email for htc UK, I would like to make a complaint. This is going to be my last htc if they carry on along this path I don’t think they will be making phones much longer.

  • raymer
  • raymer

..this makes me laugh now, they say we will get 4.2 before the s3 now !! – http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/411026/20121204/htc-one-x-android-jelly-bean-update.htm#.UL8XiYPolzY

  • Noobie

Yeah raymer, I saw that too. you think maybe they are stalling because they are going to skip the 4.1 update and go straight to the 4.2 ?

    • death1601

That would be really nice, but I think it will not happen. ;(

    • raymer

..dont think thats possible, as the updates are (allegedly) already out on a rolling server, i think that 4.2 would be another 3 months on promise too :(

      ..but ya never know ;)

  • w00x

All this waiting, and for what? What a disappointment this update is!

HTC, how did you make the interface experience lag even with Project Butter? How is that even possible?

Wallpaper is loading whenever it feels like it. Takes about 2-3 seconds sometimes.
Battery life is horrific. Did they even delete the batterystats while installing the update? From 92% it went to 84% for over 5 minutes of light use. 1 hour later, after 4 more minutes of use, the battery was on 78%. I am afraid to unlock my device now. The battery may die completely.

I am giving this one week to settle and if it doesn’t get better – I am unlocking it.
A friend’s rooted Galaxy Nexus, running Cyanogen is 3 times faster than my One X.

Good Job HTC! Nice going on the software development front there…

This is the first, and last Android phone that I keep un-rooted and running stock ROM.

    • death1601

I can’t complain about the update. My HOX is much smoother than it was before. Battery life is increased by a bit.

  • g12__

Has anyone received the update on CID HTC__001 yet??

  • Sheddyone

No, just checked on my CID 001 in London – nothing. Why don’t they just tell us what’s going on? What’s the big secret?

    • g12__

Because they’re totally crap. For a communications company HTC don’t seem to be able to communicate very well at all.

  • gus

I have a UK htc__001 unbranded, and i just checked, its here for me in the UK. I got a 1.5mb power update then after a restart i have the 367mb update.

If you want to check your hboot version hold the power and down volume buttons together. The phone will look like it’s restarting, keep holding the buttons until you see the bootloader menu, then release them.
In there you can see your hboot version, radio version, etc.
To navigate the menu in there use the up + down volume keys, and the power key to select.
To get back to Android for instance, use up/down volume to highlight FASTBOOT, press the power button to select. The FASTBOOT menu will display. Use up/down volume to highlight REBOOT and press the power button to select. Your phone will reboot back to the Android operating system.
Welcome to the very first step in hacking/modding your Android device ;-)

    • paracelus

I’m UK HTC__001, software and hboot the same as yours. No update yet :(

      • g12__

Cheers paracelus. That confirms that I haven’t totally messed up the phone, yet…
Although, there is plenty of time.

        • g12__

Cool. Thanks guys for all the replies. You have removed my paranoia that I had messed something up and the update had been released but I just hadn’t got it.

    • raymer

yeah mine same too, but still nothinK !!

    • Sheddyone

Yes,I’m on exactly the same versions. Never rooted.

  • Firas

I have a unlocked orange cid 001 but my one x didnt even upgrade to 4.0.4 its still on 4.0.3 can any one tell me what is going on?

    Thank you in advance

    • g12__

Hey Firas. When you say unlocked, do you mean not locked to a provider (often called SIM free) or has the bootloader been unlocked?

If the bootloader has been unlocked you’ll need to recover the firmware on the phone back to stock, probably using the correct RUU for your CID, provider and location.

I assume your CID is HTC__001 from your post, so that’s a SIM free, European, Worldwide English version of the One X. Can you confirm? Also, what version of software are you running? Have you done all the usual things like check manually and check with your provider (Orange) what the latest version is they have released? Actually, if you’ve never messed with the bootloader/firmware/kernel/recovery you should just be able to call Orange and get them to sort it out. Have you tried this?

      • Firas

        Thanks J12
when I did buy it was stock with orange and Unlocked it to use it in another countries with a diffident SIM cards and its still on the 4.0.3 and every time im trying to update it keep telling me there is no updates available for your phone.
I send the phone to one of the shops in Malaysia when i was there to unlock it and they did and now im tokyo i cant even go back to same shop to check what they did exactly

I dont know what to do. I cant buy a new one cause its still new and it working good and i cant get it get the update too.

        Thank you again.

        • g12__

Firas, because you don’t know what’s happened to the phone you might need to recover it. You could head over to xda-developers and ask some questions about your phone and the guys will usually be able to work out what the problem is.

Boot to the FASTBOOT menu (hold the volume down and power buttons until you see the menu). What does the first line say? It’ll either be LOCKED, UNLOCKED or RELOCKED. If it’s UNLOCKED or RELOCKED the phone is not stock.

If it is LOCKED the phone is as it came from the factory. Try backing up all your data and apps (don’t forget your contacts) and doing a soft reset (settings/storage/factory data reset) or, boot to FASTBOOT menu and select Factory Reset.

If the phone is not stock you’ll need to recover it, so you’ll need to boot to the FASTBOOT menu and find your hboot version. You’ll also need your EXACT CID number (install CID getter from Play store to get this) and the software version number (go to settings/about/software information and you’ll see software number in there).

When you have these you’ll then need to find the exact RUU (recovery update utility) file for your software version and CID number. Make sure you get the correct file! Then you recover the phone back to stock.

          There’s an excellent guide for doing this along with links to all the files you need here ;
          http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1859714

As always, all the actions you perform are at your own risk. My advice is to read as much as you can. Someone will have had the exact problem with the exact same phone somewhere before, it’s just a matter of finding where that post is on the internet. xda-developers is one of the best resources on the internet for all things about phones.
And finally, when I started out the thought of flashing my phone was terrifying in case something went wrong and I couldn’t fix it. It’s actually not as difficult as it sounds, but do read as much as you can before you start.

          Hope this helps.

          • Firas

Thank you again J12 my phone showing Unlocked and my cid is orange 001 and i will try to flash it to stock again.

Thank you very much for your help

  • Ali

I have HTC__001 but no update in the UK Damn they are taking the piss!

    • g12__

Totally agree Ali. This is an update that has been release for months now. Because it’s for SIM free units (HTC__001) it doesn’t need all the provider crap rewritten and tested and we already know Sense 4+ is already out there and working. All they need to do is release it. But why don’t they? Can they not hear the community? I can hear the community, and they sound like they’re all walking towards a big shop window loaded with Nexus and Galaxy devices already running JB 4.2 whilst HTC haven’t even got around to releasing JB 4.1. Piss firmly taken.
      Rant over.

I have HTC_001 from USA, and i am in TURKEY. No updates for me yet.

  • Mike Oxlong

I have a theory….Maybe we are in a testing situation. Maybe the limited release to CID_038 and CID_044 handsets is just to test if there are any issues with the update? As a lot of people have said, the CID__001 seems to be the worldwide unlocked handset, and if they released it with glitches to millions of handsets it could cost them dearly. Maybe there are testing it on a limited number of handsets first to ensure that they only have a few thousand unhappy people, rather than a few million? and if this is the case, they cant really announce it, otherwise the people who have received the update would complain about being the guinea pigs.

this could be a blessing in disguise !

    what do you think?

    • g12__

I fully believe that to be the case Mike. The 038 and 044 CID’s both had issues. Then randomly they released JB in the Caribbean?? What? The valuable 500 user market? Smells of live testing to me. Although I’ve heard 4.2 as been promised by HTC for the HOX for Q1 2013. I’m not holding my breath tho…..

  • Daniel Horwood

I hope that’s the case, I would much rather have a consistent, bug-free os like ics for the time being. Admittedly it’s not perfect and I’m sure jb is much cleaner & smoother but I would rather wait for an improved version than get frustrated and let down with the initial one.

As a side note I personally think it’s over-dramatic to shun & rant and rave at HTC as a brand for not releasing it quick enough and writing a complaint about it. So people moving to different hand sets and rejecting HTC brand / the one X, unless you have an insatiable desire for the jb os I think you need to mature a little bit. It’s really not the end of the world.

    • sengoku79

      Daniel,

The issue here is that we were informed of the release almost a month and a half ago by HTC – the HTC__001 is unbranded and therefore is not subject to carrier issues,

To date HTC have not given a satisfactory explanation for delays and would appear to be long fingering the issue. This is not any way to treat your consumer’s as such some people will move away.

In the end if HTC loses customers because of this they can only blame themselves – a quick 2 lines saying we are experiencing issue with the delivery of 4.1 due to – “explanation” and we aim to have resolved by “date” – would result in a lot less complaints.

      • Dan

I can understand that. As was said above, HTC aim to roll the update out to all handsets within the 45 days of official announcement. I think it was October 30th, and the end of this period is this Friday, so they still have 4 days to redeem themselves.

I too am a little frustrated. I’m not a ‘hardcore fan’ but I do still want it, but I think to go to the hassle of changing handsets and writing complaints to HTC UK is a bit unnecessary. As I said though, for android enthusiasts I can understand the frustration of having no updates on the status of the release / why it’s taking so long / a date etc.

I’m not confident HTC_001 handsets like mine will even get it by Friday but you never know :-P

        • g12__

          Flip sake!!
I am not a HTC or Android fan either. Being an IT Manager with more than 25 years experience working in IT I am a Linux fan tho, as well as a fan of buying the correct product so I don’t constantly have to spend a fortune staying somewhere near level with the technology.

I buy a phone based on the openness of the software and performance of the hardware at the time of purchase. Part of the consideration I give to these 2 factors is future development of the software (firmware, OS, whatever term you like) and how ‘up’ spec the phone is. This determines, roughly, how future proof the phone is.

Now, ICS was developed and optimised around a dual core processor. Very impressive for a phone! Then the HTC One X was released with ICS. Perfect! Dual core software with a dual core phone, couldn’t be better (first release of the HOX was the AT&T variant with the dual core Snapdragon architecture). Then came the Quad core monster with the Tegra 3 architecture. The spec was great, the chipset even better! Jelly Bean was in development. I cracked open a beer and said to myself ‘Let’s have a think about this.’ Surely they will release JB for the HOX as soon as it’s available. Surely this will make the quad core phone with the dual core software even better! Surely a quad core phone with quad core software will just be the nuts!!

And then, they announced they were in the process of rolling out JB for the HOX. It was a world wide announcement, everyone knew, forums were buzzing. It was true! We were getting it!

          Or were we?

If Lewis Hamilton had been told more than 2 months ago all his peers had got their engines remapped with an extra 100 BHP and he was getting the same upgrade, but he still was losing races due to a lack of power and no-one was talking to him about remapping the engine, do you think he might be in discussions with other teams to move right now?

It’s human nature to be ahead of the pack. I spent the best part of 500 quid on my unbranded, SIM free phone because I wanted something that would get the best software for a year or 18 months, then was Rootable, hackable and still powerful. The VERY least HTC could do is exactly as sengoku79 says, they could be polite, they could consider the people who paid a lot of money for their product, they could take the 30 seconds to write the 2 lines to let us know what’s going on.

I don’t think people are running out to change their handset just yet, but I do feel people will be thinking long and hard when they make the decision on their next handset, and I get the feeling HTC will need to do a lot to recover from this. Given their monumental slide down the sales ratings this is the last thing they needed. JB 4.2 really early in Q1 2013 is their only real hope for survival right now I feel.

I shall end now. I don’t want to say too much and I need another beer.

  • Gman

They could at the very least put something on the HTC Web Page explaining what is going on with the jb update and a possible date we can expect it and not leave everyone wondering when. Motorola can do it!

  • Evil Mutha

Has anyone received update for cid_102?

      CID “HTC_102″ confirmed.

      • Mike Oxlong

is that CID HTC_102 in the UK?

  • RR

No Updates yet onto CID “HTC__001″ in UK.

  • Ole

Yeah, finally got the update, CID: HTC__102 (bought in germany).

  • Mike Oxlong

Well it looks like the update is moving from East to West (geographically speaking). It was first rolled out in the far east, then moved through the middle east and into Europe. It’s now as far as Germany, so on that basis, surely the UK update can’t be too far away! Fingers crossed :-)

  • sengoku79

Got news from my carrier(Meteor) that it’s due for release in the middle of next week in Ireland on their network. Good on HTC for announcing this too :-P

    • Gman

Don’t hold you’re breath mate htc are quietly brilliant at miss leading us with bull shit information regarding updates.

      • g12__

Wasn’t HTC who announced this, it was Meteor, a carrier in Ireland (like O2, Vodafone, etc.). Sengoku79 is spot on with his post, Meteor have confirmed Dec. 19th Jelly Bean release date for HTC one X !!
This can only be good news.
I read on XDA-Developers where someone else had posted a UK release date of Dec. 19th. Coincidence? But I’m not off to the bookies just yet to put the house on it….

        • sengoku79

PS – The last time Meteor confirmed an update – it arrived 3/4 days ahead of schedule.
, but not going to hold my breath this time

          • g12__

I want to hope for the 19th, but I know I’ll just be massively disappointed if it doesn’t happen. Might have to go for the RUU and reinstall everything if that’s the case :(

  • g12__

Have just seen a tweet from HTC UK confirming the update will be released Monday or Tuesday! Hopefully this isn’t more HTC fiction.

    https://twitter.com/thelawns/status/279958242015191042

    • iain

I have a bad feeling about this because the Twitter PR person said ‘they said’ iIt’s almost as of the spokesperson didn’t really believe it ether and didn’t want blamed come Wednesday so said ‘they said ‘ not ‘we think’

      • Sheddyone

Just checked on Twitter, and I read it more positively.

The response from @htc_uk must have been them just repeating what HTC HQ replied to their question – probably by email.

“Monday/Tuesday” straight from a confirmed genuine HTC source is how I read it.

      • Sheddyone

For clarity, this is the exact reply from @htc_uk: @thelawns Hey Richard, the wait is over! They have informed us the update will most probably arrive Monday/Tues

        • g12__

Sheddyone, I agree. My reading of it was a call centre agent or similar, working on a UK HTC contract with only access/authority to work on UK kit, asking the rollout project team for an estimated rollout date.

But lets face it, it’s not the official announcement HTC should be making. It could be inaccurate. However, it’s the closest I’ve seen to ANY confirmed HTC source saying ANYTHING apart from the usual ‘coming soon’ line they trot out.

          Fingers crossed.

  • gotwood

The way the tweet says “most probably” still leaves doubt in my mind as to whether it will be released on these dates , mainly because the 45 days HTC promised has elapsed. Fingers crossed though been wanting this update since I heard of the release

    • Sheddyone

Just covering their backs I suspect. Just as likely to arrive early. “Under promise, over deliver”. Something HTC have taken a little too literally.

  • Vince

Does HTC phones get updates by CID? Mine is HTC_102, I’m using One S though. and so many phones with the same CID got updated, but not mine……

    • g12__

One X for CID HTC__102 got updated. The update for the One S hasn’t been released yet AFAIK? However, shouldn’t be too far away….

  • CZFred

HTC__001 in UK. Still nothing. ‘m not really sure why I’m getting so impatient about this next one. I think Google Now will probably get on my nerves to be honest. Looking forward to Butter, but again, it’s pretty smooth already. We shall see. I bet it’s here before the end of next week / christmas.

I’m buying an M7 (or whatever it ends up being called) as soon as it hits the shops, btw.

    • Sheddyone

Me too. I’m quite sanguine about it all now we have some info. As you said, there’s nothing wrong with the HOX with ICS. Glad I avoided the fruity choice.

  • klcow92

my friend has a one x, but google now is not even on the phone, updated search app on play store but still nothing in the settings menu of the search app to enable google now :(

  • sengoku79

still no “jelly bean” in cid_001 :(

  • Sheddyone

HTC UK ‏ tweeting it’s now out, but not for my HTC__001 :(

@htc_uk: The update is officially rolling out in the UK #Jellybean #Update #JB

  • Rodrix

If my phone is cid_001 but I live in Brazil, should I expect to take the update with UK rollout?

  • Noke

    Still nothing CID__001 ?!

  • iain

Yes, as far as I’m aware the updates are as per cid not location. However the cid determines where the handset was intended to be sold. The 001 is intended for all English speaking European counties ie the UK and Ireland. If you have a 001 in another country it the same time as me in the UK.

  • raymer

..still licking my ice cream.. :(

  • g12__

Still no update here either, HTC__001, Northern Ireland. Feck sake hurry up lads!!

  • g12__

And as a measure of how HTC treat their customers, check this out.
    http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/HTC-One-Series/HTC-One-X-JellyBean-4-1/m-p/1370062

Vodafone UK have managed to get the Jelly Bean update to their UK customers before HTC can get it to unbranded phones. This shambles will not make me run out and buy a new phone straight away, but HTC will need to do something very, very special to convince me to buy another one of their phones.

  • iain

Twitter said unbranded 001s will get it “in the next couple of hours” about an hour ago

  • raymer

..wow, vodafone beat my unlocked phone, thats pure bullshit HTC :(

  • CZFred

I’ve got it now. I had to force it though, by downloading the two pre-loader files and restarting the phone, before then checking for updates. Sure enough, there it was. So, if you’re impatient, do that!!

    • iain

      How does one do that?

This morning CID: HTC_001 no update!! Just tried the force download method and it’s installing as we speak :D

    • Xander

      How can we force it?

  • Noke

Still nothing :( How to do force download method??????????

  • Luke

UK CID_001 Still no Jelly Bean Update

Anyone know how to perform the “force download” method?

    Cheers

  • Sheddyone

    Done it:

    1) Download and unzip the “First-update-apps.zip” file at: http://d-h.st/XsN and copy the unzipped folders to your Download folder on your HOX.

    2) Change settings to allow untrusted sources.

    3) Install both apps using AppInstaller.

    4) Reboot phone (takes longer than normal)

    5) Check for updates.

    Worked for me!

  • Luke

Does your phone need to be rooted for this method to work?

    Many thanks

  • Sheddyone

    Hi Luke.

No, your phone doesn’t need to be rooted, I’ve never rooted mine, just a std HTC__001 One X.

I’ve downloaded the update and it’s installing now.

  • Luke

I can confirm Jelly Bean is now available for UK CID_001 if you use the below Manual force method

Many thanks to Sheddyone for the instructions

    • M1lls

does this method damage the phone in any way and does it work?

      thanks

    • Peter

My CID says mob005 what does this mean. Tried the force update method everything installs but when checking for updates it still says there is non ? Help me

  • Mike Oxlong

    CAUTION EVERYONE !!

Be sure what you’re downloading before you blindly install some third party app on your phone.
I’m not saying that this force method is anything other than what it looks like, but don’t just blindly follow these instructions without doing a bit of research.

I am personally going to wait for the official release from HTC.

It make take a bit longer, but at least i trust the source !

  • Luke

Good point i do agree with you Mike but I’m willing to take the risk (if there is any)

I’ve heard no reply from HTC over the last few weeks which is not suprising

The download is 367.14MB which appears correct and my One X has just verified the package

I will post another comment after update

  • Luke

Update finished successfully, couple of brown pant moments but all appears fine

    Andorid Version 4.1.1
    HTC Sense Version 4+

    • Mike Oxlong

Luke, just wondering if this process works by changing your phones CID. i.e. the update still isnt out for CID HTC__001, but yours has now been changed to another CID number that has had the update released for it?

could you re-check your CID and see if it has changed from HTC__001 ?

i cant see how else this “forced update” would work….but im in no way a developer, so i could be missing some other obvious method.

  • ilias

Htc-uk in twitter says that the update is out but it depends on the location to receive it…wtf????i bought my one x from expansys uk cid_001 but i am in greece…that means i ll have to wait more???(by the way my folks here in greece have already receive it…)

  • Pere

I can confirm that the forced download method works, downloading update now!!!!!!

  • Luke

    Hi Mike

I just downloaded “CID Getter” from the Play Store and my CID is still HTC_001

Been playing around and everything is so much slicker with Jelly Bean

    New Apps:

    Best Deals
    Chrome
    HTC MediaLink HD
    Play Magazines
    Google Play

    New HTC wallpapers also!

    • Mike Oxlong

Thanks for the reposnse Luke. I would love to know how this forced update actually works.

Anyone out there in the developer comminuty who could shed some light on this?

      • M1lls

jelly Bean comes in 2 parts, the smaller pre update update and the larger jelly bean update. It looks to me like the “forced method” basically adds the pre JB update to your phone so when you reboot and search for the JB update, your phone finds it as it now has the pre installed pre update update (2 many updates? :-)).

  • James Hopwood

Now on a bit of jelly bean nice new keyboard took long time to load but it ok. I did the forced way

  • jigjags

just done the forced download method and it is now downloading

  • raymer

    ..doing the forced download now..

    • raymer

      ..it worked :)

  • Noke

Downloading by forced metod…wondering is this official update for CID__001?

  • Ali

has anyone actually received the update normally through HTC in the Uk?

    • M1lls

check again Ali through settings. Phones are now receiving the update from HTC.

    • Gman

Nope, and if I don’t get it by tonight il be doing the force update also because htc absolutely taking the piss. At the rate they are going unlocked htc__001 will be the last handset’s to get jb getting beaten even by branded phones. What an embarrassment for the company.

  • gotwood

I have just tried this forced method and it didnt work ……. Could could this be because my phone is on contract
?? Any advice would be much appreciated :)

  • kami

I can confirm that the forced method works ! So pleased. UK cid 001:)

  • Dan

Guys, good news! I have just checked and received the first 1.25mb update.

    Cid_001, U.K. Unbranded / Unlocked

Without forcing it, the twitter account has a lot of waffle about your location. I have no idea about others or anywhere else but I am in Cardiff andout to restart the phone now.

Be patient! It looks as if today is actually the day!

  • nioricardo

yeaahhh!!!! I got 367.14 mb package, cid 001, from Ecuador!!!!

  • Dan

Yep, I can confirm I am downloading the larger file now after a restart. 367.5mb in size.

As said before. Cid_001,U.K Unlocked / Unbranded. Without forcing.

Finally! This has taken way too long.

  • Sheddyone

Good news I’d it’s coming now. As has already been said, the ‘forced’ method just manually installs the first update, then the main JB upgrade comes down from HTC.

First glance shows kbd improvements and power saver mode, plus the new Google ‘siri’ search.

And Sky Go is now available from the Play Store.

  • g12__

Finally. Downloading it now on UK HTC__001 CID.

  • RR

CID HTC__001, UK, the official updates are being downloaded.

  • Gman

As above htc__001 UK just got jb installed without the force method. Way too long for this update, I hope htc learn something from this.. On good note loving jb :-)

  • mecm

I checked a few minutes ago and as the comment above i got jelly b without forcing Cid 001

  • rick

Yes , UK cid 001 officail update is here , at last. Now can someone give me the differences ?

  • Rodrix

I don’t see the difference? How do we use Google now? It seems like an apple thing. Too much noise..

  • Rodrix

    Excuse my autocorrector English.

  • Kapuska

    Turkey HTC_001 update done :D

  • g12__

So yes. Jelly Bean seems slicker. Exchange ActiveSync actually works and there are many enhancements and improvements. Many thanks Google, it’s a slick piece of software. Can’t wait to see JB 4.2 on my HTC One X!!

    Oh, hang on a minute….
By the time HTC get around to releasing 4.2 for the One X we’ll all be using native Google devices, right?

  • Serk

Great update! BUT! Anyone else have problems with viber? It seems that after the update the viber call quality has become completely unacceptable.. It’s like I’m speaking with someone on a prehistoric phone..??

  • rick

No WiFi direct now though, typical …….

  • Emmanuel Louise

    Any update for HTC_016 ????

    • Emmanuel Louise

My mobile got the update MAURITIUS

  • Gman

Anyone else having problems with Gmail and play store since the jb update. Neither application’s working.

  • tip

    still no update HTC_016

  • Peter

My CID actually says . T-MOB005
Can I get the update . Tried force update … Not worked . Installed files but no update when checked ??

  • Johnny

Congratulations to all the people who did get JB.

I was not so fortunate. I have HTC__001 aswell, but unlike all of you who live in Europe, I live in North America, Toronto, Ontario to be exact. Upon searching the interwebs for people like me, it seems as if no one in this God forsaken land has the international phone but me haha. Just wondering if there is anyone in Canada who has the international HOX and has received the JB update.

    Cheers

    • Mag

I have HTC__001 and lives in Toronto, Ontario…. Got the jb updates on dec 18..Same as all other htc__001….:)

  • tony
