Samsung updating international Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 to Android 4.3

Samsung

Samsung is finally updating their Galaxy S4 smartphone to Android 4.3, and while it isn’t a huge update, it comes with some sizable changes. The device launched with 4.2, the newest version of Android at the time, and is now getting the latest 4.3 update over the air.

According to those who’ve used it, the update significantly changes the performance of the device. The Galaxy S4 has never been a super quick device, with some lags and stutters all around, but that was attributed to poor optimization. The update features a bunch of optimizations which smooth out the device and make it feel much faster, as well as benchmark higher (though we don’t trust benchmarks). Here is an unofficial changelog of what has been noticed:

  • OpenGL 3.0 Support
  • GALAXY GEAR Support
  • TRIM Support (Makes the device much faster)
  • ANT+ Support
  • Samsung KNOX Implementation (KNOX bootloader and dedicated application)
  • Samsung Wallet comes pre-loaded
  • Improved RAM management
  • Improved Display colour reproduction (Display looks much sharper than before)
  • Improved TouchWiz Launcher (Much less launcher redraws and less lag)
  • New Samsung Keyboard
  • New Samsung Browser (Full screen by default, new tab interface and more)
  • New Reading Mode (Optimises display for reading, used by only a few specific applications)
  • New Camera firmware
  • Minor UI tweaks (Contacts app, Flashlight Widget, dialog boxes etc)

It’s a pretty dang nice update then, so when are you getting it? Well if you own a GT-I9505, the LTE version of the international Galaxy S4, you should get the update soon. It’s rolling out on a country-to-country basis. It’s currently out in Germany and will be rolling out to everyone else over time, so be patient. And if you want to check for the update, head over to Settings > More > About device > Software update. Tell us if you get it and how you like it! And for US users, time to wait a few months.

Be aware that the update will add a regional sim lock to your device which means that the phone is not accepting sim cards from another region. European phones only for european sim cards, etc. International version, I don’t think so!!
Phone can be unlocked trough the autorized service center!

I updated it through Kies. Not a lot changed. I thought there will be more features and redesigns. the only visual things changed was the assistive light, reading mode, and the browser(only the scrolling through the pages changed). It started to lag a bit more, unlike what was said. and the screen feels a bit more dim. and i forgot something, the status bar became transparent when there’s a live wallpaper, while the previous version didn’t.

I wish I had never updated! It has been a nightmare since, with dreadful lagging, screens overwriting each other, not sending texts, extremely bad reaction time when texting, completely froze a couple of times, flickering screen at certain times amongst other things. My phone has become almost unusable where as before update it was brilliant and never once lagged even for a micro second. I am not a happy bunny. Does anyone know what I can do about this please? :-(
