Samsung updating international Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 to Android 4.3

Samsung

Samsung is finally updating their Galaxy S4 smartphone to Android 4.3, and while it isn’t a huge update, it comes with some sizable changes. The device launched with 4.2, the newest version of Android at the time, and is now getting the latest 4.3 update over the air.

According to those who’ve used it, the update significantly changes the performance of the device. The Galaxy S4 has never been a super quick device, with some lags and stutters all around, but that was attributed to poor optimization. The update features a bunch of optimizations which smooth out the device and make it feel much faster, as well as benchmark higher (though we don’t trust benchmarks). Here is an unofficial changelog of what has been noticed:

  • OpenGL 3.0 Support
  • GALAXY GEAR Support
  • TRIM Support (Makes the device much faster)
  • ANT+ Support
  • Samsung KNOX Implementation (KNOX bootloader and dedicated application)
  • Samsung Wallet comes pre-loaded
  • Improved RAM management
  • Improved Display colour reproduction (Display looks much sharper than before)
  • Improved TouchWiz Launcher (Much less launcher redraws and less lag)
  • New Samsung Keyboard
  • New Samsung Browser (Full screen by default, new tab interface and more)
  • New Reading Mode (Optimises display for reading, used by only a few specific applications)
  • New Camera firmware
  • Minor UI tweaks (Contacts app, Flashlight Widget, dialog boxes etc)

It’s a pretty dang nice update then, so when are you getting it? Well if you own a GT-I9505, the LTE version of the international Galaxy S4, you should get the update soon. It’s rolling out on a country-to-country basis. It’s currently out in Germany and will be rolling out to everyone else over time, so be patient. And if you want to check for the update, head over to Settings > More > About device > Software update. Tell us if you get it and how you like it! And for US users, time to wait a few months.
