Motorola: Moto G Android 4.4.2 update now being pushed out

motog

You know how Motorola’s been on a bit of a roll lately with its Android software updates? Yeah, the company just went ahead and did it again, announcing that it’s now pushing Android 4.4.2 KitKat to the Moto G. The update is largely similar to the one that hit the Moto X last month and this one, bringing goodies like an improved phone app, better camera and gallery apps and quite a bit more. Here’s Moto’s official changelog:

  • Androidâ„¢ 4.4, KitKat®: Android 4.4.2, KitKat, is the latest release of the Android platform. KitKat includes enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, smarter power use, and more tools and capabilities for better app development.
  • Phone dialer: Improved the phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad, see and tap frequent contacts, and search your corporate directory easily.
  • Camera – Focus and exposure: Enhanced the “touch to focus” option with a new circular, on screen control that can be dragged by your finger around the viewfinder to adjust a photo’s focus and exposure.
  • Gallery – Photo editing: Added new photo editing options to the Gallery app including new filter effects, draw on your photos, advanced cropping, and adjustments to color, exposure, contrast and more.
  • Printing documents and pictures: Added support for printing photos, Google Docs, GMail messages, and other content via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and hosted services like Google Cloud Print and HP ePrinters.
  • Hangouts – SMS/MMS support: Incorporated a new version of Google Hangouts that supports integrated SMS/MMS messaging. Hangouts can be set as the default SMS app under Settings > Wireless > Default SMS app.
  • Accessory support: Added support for Square credit card reader.

Motorola says that the update is currently rolling out to U.S. customers that ordered their Moto G either directly from the Motorola website or from Amazon. Moto G owners in other regions shouldn’t fret, though, as the folks at Motorola promise that it’ll update other Moto G units “soon.” Those people with a Moto G that is eligible to receive today’s update can check for it manually by heading into Settings > About phone > System updates > Download.

It’s pretty awesome to see that the Moto G is already receiving its bump up to Android 4.4.2, and I’m sure that owners of the new device are pretty pleased to be getting the newest version of Android before almost all other devices that are running Google’s mobile OS. When you combine all of these updates that Motorola has pushed lately with the company’s new Moto X ad, it becomes clear that Moto is passionate about its new devices and keeping its customers happy, and I’m betting that its hard work is paying off in the form of turning its customers into loyal Moto enthusiasts.

Are any of you currently rocking a Moto G? If so, be sure to give us a shout once Android 4.4.2 makes its way to you!

in view of the above statement , must the Amazon purchased phone be physically online in the US to be first to receive the updates?

We bought 20 (14 from Motorola direct and 6 from Amazon) for our employees for Xmas. NO 4.4 UPDATE YET. We tried on the phone and with the PC software. Has anyone really been able to update? Sucks that you see so make stories that it is out when I think it is not! Motorola says it is going out “in batches”. So like in a day? A week? A month?

What are the chances that, if the next MotoX is cheaper, it just might end up killing the Nexus brand?

    • redraider133

Maybe that is googles plan all along?

    • donger

Quite possible. But don’t think it’ll kill it completely. The moto x would be more of a budget friendly phone.

  • redraider133

Good to see moto fast to update even their “low end” model. Those are usually the ones last to be updated. Really liking the new moto and what they have done so far.

Damn, Motorola is really stepping their game up. I might even get the Moto X2 instead of the Nexus 6, assuming they release it internationally.
